Callaway Hawk Eye Fairway Wood Golf Club

I have tried many different clubs in my golfing life and some were noteworthy in terms of quality, function and playability. However, it had been a long time since I experienced the excitement of really finding something 'new' in the golf world when it came to game improvement clubs. The last time I got really excited about seeing a real difference in expected distance was the time I bought a Callaway S2H2 3 wood that was made for the Tour at 13 degrees of loft. I hit the danged thing 250 yards! I found myself not even needing to hit driver on most holes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'm not one for todays technology gimmicks. Yes, there have been advances in club head design when it comes to game improvement with all of the perimeter weighted monsters on the market. I still prefer the old forged blade style irons. And I really shy away from todays monster headed drivers and fairway woods. The biggest driver head to my liking is around 290cc. That's why I was a little hesitant about buying a Callaway Hawk Eye 5 wood because it was bigger than other models I was used to. I really wondered why www.callawaypreowned.com was selling these for $129.00 and more. After all, weren't they outdated as compared to today's hybrid clubs? Anyway, off to the range I went with my new 5 wood in hand. This club had been fitted with a Titleist Ultralight stiff flex graphite shaft. First ball, 220 yards on the fly. Second ball, 210-215 yards on the fly. Whoa. What was going on here? 3rd, 4th, 5th ball, the same, tremendous carry with very little effort. And a very solid feel. The tungsten weight in the center of the sole made it very easy to get the ball airborn, so much so that I didn't even think about it. But 220 yards with roll out to around 235-240 with a 5 wood? It was challenging my Callaway S2H2 3 wood at 12 degrees for distance. Super easy to hit, much like they say about hybrids today. No wonder Callaway is charging the prices they charge! So I bought a 3+ Hawk Eye to see how it will perform. For my money, anyone looking at today's hybrids, should try the Callaway Hawk Eye 5 wood first. You may be glad you did!
