Callaway Big Bertha X-12 Iron set Golf Club

I'm a middle-aged, bogie golfer, lowest ever handicap:12. I shot a low round record 81 in June 2006 with X-12's at a tough muni in upstate NY - Colonie Golf Course,4/9's, one of the best munis I've played anywhere. I also am a member at the (public)Palma Real, RTJones 1972 in Ixtapa, Mexico.)
Irons in play : CALLAWAY X-12 on RCH 96 regular flex.
2nd Bag: x-12's on RCH96 stiff, which give a lower trajectory and with a bit more roll equals LONGER.
Wife's Bag: X-12's on Ladies Gems: She can spank 'em and hits my 96 Regs well, too.
About graphite: We both prefer it to steel. I don't think graphite is "less accurate" as has been said (or parroted, take your choice) by quite a few. Graphite is longer than steel: these fly maybe 8-10yd longer than TT D Gold 300 steel, but that's not necessarily true for everyone. They are lighter to carry if you are a hoofer, but the net difference amounts to carrying one less can of beer (:->)
At some point most golfers not gifted a set of irons by some leprechaun begin to wonder if they shouldn't drag all those old steel tomato stakes they've been bashing the worms with to the dumpster and then shop E Bay for some newer irons. If you want your name on the leaderboard of your local cow-patty league and can't seem to get those Greens in Reg. you should try the X-12's. They're a bargain on E Bay right now, they have "tour victories" to their credit if that impresses you. The newer X-16 Steelheads are an equal bargain on E Bay but they have a very different feel.
Callaway has every bit the fanatic fan base as PING -We have a PING 3 and 7 wood and 4 PING putters between us- the reason being that a quality product, excellent R and D and great tech support speak loudly. The X-12's are in my opinion the best feeling, best looking, easiest to clean (cavity backs are notorious mud-gatherers) and most durable irons these guys have made to date. I've hit the x-14's, x-16 Steelheads and the Fusion heads. I was not impressed by any appreciable difference other than the higher price.
Don't misunderstand: if it wasn't for the talent at Callaway bringing the hot faces, heads, (sometimes great) shafts and really good looking iron sets to market year after year those X-12's wouldn't have been there a few years ago to begin with - they have a right to market share having earned it.
Consider this: If the older sets won all those trophies and it's only 2,3 or 4 years later, what changed? Could it be just cosmetics? Aren't the basic geometry and weight distribution (more or less) the same? You think steel ain't steel??? Hmmm. I think it's the player, not the club, but then let's leave the driver and fairway woods out of this argument. That's a different story.

LIKE: Today's prices, particularly on EBAY. $175-$230 for really nice sets. Sharp looks, balance, everything Callaway says in their Product come-on is true.
These are not oversize heads, an OVERDONE hype when it comes to performance. The idea is not FORGIVENESS, it's about practice makes perfect and getting to be a "good" player. These heads are compact: bigger than blades, smaller that O-Size. When hit consistently on the sweet spot, easy to do if you practice, these x-12's feel fantastic. We like to bang these on the range as much as our woods: Nike Ignite 1-3-4-7-9 in mine, Ping G2/BBertha WB's 3-5-7-9-11 in hers.

Cheesy painted shaft graphics on the RCH shafts get bag-beat very easily. Surfer dude or road bike frame decals, maybe? (:->

I bought a set of X-12s for my father 6-7 years ago. I recently bought him a set of Fusions but he can't seem to hit it well as the X-12s. He liked his old set of X-12s so much that I bought him a used set on e-Bay to replace his well-worn X-12s. I really like the Fusions, but if I have to pick a favorite, I too like the X-12s better than X-14, X-16, original Big Bertha, and Hawkeyes, VFTs. Cosmetically, X-12s look better than X-14s and are more forgiving. I played them all, and the ones I like the best are X-12s and Fusions (not the new widebody). X-12s have the game improvement features without being bulky. All Callaway irons, with exception of X-12s, X-14s and Fusions, are bulky with thick topline that many people object to. They all hit great.

These clubs are great. They have helped my game. Big Bertha's are the most forgiving clubs i have ever owned

Excellent clubs. I have improved my short game and accuracy. I;m overall satisfy with this purchase. Golf clubs were delivered very quickly and in excellent condition.

My golf clubs were stolen and they were knockoffs of Big Bertha Callaways. The knockoff company was out of business so I went to Ebay to see if I could replace them with real Big Berthas. I not only found a complete set but they were the exact models that my knockoffs came from. I was even more astonished when they arrived and included 3-9 irons, three wedges and would you believe it! A 2 iron as a surprise for paying so promptly! I couldn't be happier with the clubs AND the sellers.

A set of X-12 irons on eBay runs in the $125.00 to $200.00 range. For the price these game improvement clubs will benefit the beginner to mid-level player by allowing the ball to get up and stay in play. You'll begin to enjoy the game more with the relief that your shooting 95 instead of 100 while saving hundreds of dollars.

BEST IRONS CALLAWAY HAS EVER MADE!! VERY FORGIVING! ! HAVE GREAT FEEL, ESPECIALLY ON THE SHORTER IRONS. IF YOU CAN PICK UP A SET AROUND 200.00 OR LESS, ITS A BARGAIN.. TRUST ME..

I would love to give them an Excellent but since we've had record snow fall this year I havent got the chance to play golf...I have a net and a mat set up in my garage and I love the clubs so far. I have always played cleveland irons ta5 and ta3 and I was around a 10 handicap when I quit playing 4 years ago so I wanted to go back to an offset club. The x12s are a forgiving club and they set up perfect...I would recommend these clubs very highly.

THAT BEING SAID, THEY PERFORM LIKE A DREAM IN ALMOST EVERY WAY.
SOLID CONTACT EVEN FROM THE ROUGH, VERY FORGIVING AND EXCELLENT TRAJECTORY.

I HAVE SINCE GROWN INTO THEM AND I AM DOING THINGS WITH THE BALL I DID NOT KNOW POSSIBLE.

THE X-12 WERE INTRODUCED 9 YEARS AGO, BUT THEY STILL HOLD UP TODAY AS A GREAT CHOICE FOR THE MID AND LOW HANDICAPPER.

ONLY DOWNSIDE IF THERE IS ONE IS THEY APPEAR A BIT BULKY AND THE WEDGES ARE A BIT HEAVY, BUT THIS IS ONLY A MINOR DRAWBACK.

OVERALL THESE ARE A FUN SET OF CLUBS TO PLAY AND WORTH EVERY PENNY!

I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM WITHOUT HESITATION ESPECIALLY WITH THE GRAPHITE SHAFTS.

These irons still set the standard for forgiveness, consistency, and distance. Mishits although detectable, are still very smooth with little loss in distance. Even as a 10 handicap the alignment aids on the original grips and clubface are still appreciated.

The best woman golfer in the world for the last 10 years continues to use the slighter newer x-14s which demonstrates that the X-Series technology was ahead of its time. Personally I still prefer the finish on the X-12's which proves to stand the test time without attracting the normal bag chatter seen on shinier chrome heads.

Hard pressed to find a better iron that appeals to such a large range of handicap and offer great resale!

These clubs were in great shape. The grips where new and they hit long and straight and reel forgiving.The EBAY price was nice to. Another real plus was the honesty of the seller and real pictures blemishes and all nothing held back. (not a stock photo)with a over rated rate.

I purchased a Callaway Big Bertha Iron set for my husband's '06 Christmas present. Callaway is a brand he'd always wanted. Even though it's mid-winter here in IL, my husband found a semi-warm day to try out his new clubs. They are all that the seller claimed -- a complete set of irons, with 3 wedges and a putter. All were in good to excellent condition. The sand wedge showed chipping wear, as would be expected, but I was told of this in advance. We're very satisfied with the purchase, have no complaints, and will be shopping at eBay again in the future.

These Callaway clubs are excellent for ladies and are hard to find. The clubs were in good condition and the price paid a fair one. Would recommend these club for any lady player

Good, solid club but a 'tweener' between the classic Big Bertha originals and the classic X-14's which offer more performance and a more solid feel for approx. the same cost.

Callaway has earned "leader prestige" in golf. Afer searching on Ebay I was able to save at least 60% on my purchase. The communication was excellent and the fast shipping was an added bonus! I would highly recommend and will continue to shop on Ebay. Thank you!

i ordered this set because i have two homes and wanted identicle clubs so i wouldn't have to drag one set back and forth all the time. this set is identicle to my previous set. this set actually showes less use than my previous set. thanks

I like the Calloway products and had bought a set for my son and liked them. I decided to buy a set for myself.

Excellent product- at least as good as described. Prompt shipment. Would have preferred that seller had notified of shipment without having to be queried.

I like them, there great. I golfed them and my golf score went down by 15 shots!!!!!!!!!! I love these golf clubs...there the best!!!!!!!!

I purchased the Big Bertha iron set and was led to believe the shipping would cost $18. That was the stated price. I asked for the $3 additional cost to have them shipped priority mail. No problem, I was told.
Later I was told I owed $84 for shipping. (NOT priority mail).
I refused and after talking with the seller by phone we resolved the problem amicably.
I like the irons and am hitting them better than any of my past sets.
I hope there are no repercussions and no hard feelings. I have none.

I bought these irons for my son who just had to have Callaway clubs. He is very happy with them and hits the ball well. they were a good buy.
