Call of Duty: World at War (Playstation 3, 2008)

PROS:
Intense combat situations with lots of booms and bangs everywhere
Great graphics, thanks to the COD 4 engine
Great combat scenarios (inside the Reichtag, Japanese trenches)
Good single player campaign (about 8 hours long)
Great multiplayer, a lot like COD 4 but WWII style
Nazi Zombie Co-op Survival mode is a great add on
Lots of weapons to pick up and swap
The overpowered flamethrower (one shot, all burned!)
The concept of the whole game is a great one

CONS:
Numerous glitches and bugs (patches are coming out to fix them)
Sometimes the AI is really dumb
Sounds can be a little flat and chunky at times
I many times couldn’t say who was friend and who was foe
Some parts are a little bit cheesy

OVERALL THOUGHTS:
You can’t speak of this game without mentioning that is almost completely based on Call of Duty 4. It is like playing a WWII total conversion modification of last years best FPS, which in the end is actually a really good thing.

You should know that the developers of this game are the same guys behind Call of Duty 3 (which is considered to be the worst COD in the series). Infinity Ward did not have to do with this project and the lack of polished details shows a lot throughout the game. The game tries to make his own version of COD 4 WWII style, and for parts it works quite well, but it sometimes it just feels a little bit forced. Now don’t get me wrong, this game is pretty good. I had a lot fun with it and the combat intensity for which the COD franchise is known is intact.

Bottom line is that if COD 4 received 95/100, COD: World at War would get an 85/100. It is a great game worth playing, but the numerous glitches and rough edges prevent it to be an excellent game.

The only reason they got a 3 out of 5 on this one from me is because they came out with co-op on campaign. I love multiplayer on COD4 and this one sucks. The biggest problem is that they will spawn you right where someone is standing, aiming, or of course camping. Not kidding a bit. I got shot 5 times in probably 35-40 seconds because of this. I'm always on the crappy end of the stick so I get shot. I have felt sorry for the few people that spawn right in front of me while I'm running along or have my weapon aimed shooting at someone else. They don't have a chance and you won't either whenever it happens to you. The other bad thing is that most courses are wide open. Encourages camping a lot. That's mainly what it is. So if you're a good camper go ahead and buy it. I can't sit there and wait that long for somebody to run by. I do like the campaign and co-op campaign though. That's probably the only reason I am thinking of keeping the game. If they update the problems with spawning people that will make me keep it even more. I play multiplayer a lot like I'm sure most of you do so remember this review. I wouldn't have bought it brand new if I knew what I know now.

This game is nothing like COD4. The gameplay is laggy, the AI is honestly retarded...you run and shoot and complete such generic tasks such as "find the bazooka, blow up the tank, air strike the tank"...its lame. This is not made by the same company that made COD4...This is nothing like COD4, I honestly cant believe people are trying to compare it to COD4. The graphics are also downgraded and very ugly, even on my 1080I Samsung LCD... Very dissapointed, if you dont believe me buy it for yourself and you will be selling it to another unfourtunate soul on ebay within days. I cant wait for Infinity Ward to release the new COD in 2009, now that will be a game worth your money.

This First Person Shooter has the best online play ever invented! You will team up with players from around the world and the action is intense. Extremely realistic! A MUST HAVE!

You can pick this game up used on ebay for a bargain and will not be disappointed in the least!

I give this game an average rating due only to the length of the game. I am not an avid player of first person shooter games, but this one was rated by many to be one of the best, so I tried it. Although the graphics and action were stellar, I beat the game first in the easiest mode, then in the second hardest mode in four evenings. It took me about 8 hours of game play the first time and about 6 the second time. I am now playing the online battles that do add enough extra credence to the game to keep me from giving it a below average rating.

If you like buying a game to experience what it has to offer, then quickly selling it on EBay and purchase your next adventure, then this game fits the bill.

Graphics were extraordinary. Challenging chapters to make you test your own skills. Will always buy Call of Duty have never been dis-satisified with their games. 5 star acoss the board.

If you liked COD4, then you need to try this out. Excellent game, best WWII shooter available from ALL-TIME! Only thing I dislike are the muffled sound effects. Not as crisp and clear as COD4, but not a big deal...

I´ve played just a little bit of solo campaign, but the game is very good. The non-stop action, lots of guns to choose and great image and sound.

Did not play the multiplayer game yet, but I´m sure that it will be great too.

The online play isn't the greatest however Nazi Zombies rocks. You win this mini game after completing the game. I do recommend the purchase of this game

Best first person shooter game i have ever played. the campaign is great and gives you great history about wwII along the way. and online play is even better than modern warfare.

I loved COD4. I "like" COD World at War. You probaly will like it too. It's not as total disappointing as many will portray. Perhaps like myself, they are just disappointed. I played COD$ like religion, almost daily. Online was FANTASTIC, like no game play before it. Now COD-War is a bit under achieving. Although. I liked it, but not enough to play it not even half as much as COD4. My first day I saw 110,000 gamers online at once. Within a couple of days, down to 75,000. Now, it averages, around 52,000-55,000. I played COD4 avg. 5-7 days out of a week for 9 or 10 months. Now within about a month I put my COD World at War for sale on eBay. I got $51 plus threw in FREE SHIPPING. Not a bad return. I think you will see this trend progressively. Man, I sold it before Christmas. It nice to play, but....it's "a candle in the wind". It just didn't last, for me. Go ahead, YOU give it a try....while you can still sell it on eBay
