Caligula (DVD, 2007, Imperial Edition; 3-Disc Set)

As I remembered it...Over the top! Got it for a friends birthday present as he had never seen it...His comment "This movie has something to offend EVERYONE!"
Indeed it does.
Poor Helen Mirren having to see this on her resume...I imagine Malcolm McDowell doesn't mind (he IS a bit of a rake) and Peter O'Toole actually acted quite well in it. Sir John G. was probably grateful his character had a very limited role in this movie.
All in all, it is what it is.
A train wreck of a movie...a CLASSIC over the top train wreck of a movie. Get the 3 disc set, so you can get all the commentaries and back-story.
Gratuitous sex, gratuitous violence, togas that look like lingerie (even on the men!), dwarfs (yes dwarfs!), full frontal nudity, girl on girl, boy on girl, boy on boy, snake on girl (yup)...name it, it has it.
Pop some popcorn, sit down and get ready to be alternately appalled, aroused, disgusted, amused, and awed (at the awfulness of the editing).

3 Disc of this movie is more than enough. A movie that has no idea where the hell it is going but goes forward anyway. Doesn't matter if the porno parts were inserted later it doesn't help! This movie worth is only as a conversational piece, like those pretty big book you buy for the coffee table. for collectors of weird cinema, unusual movies, etc. If you are expecting a masterpiece please set your expectations lower, much lower. I enjoyed it from a purely entertainment perspective, like staring at a car wreck! Plenty of extras, that make this set worthwhile. The excluded scenes are poor quality and boring. However the commentaries and other things are interesting. The best part was the commentary with Helen Miren, what a class act and interesting comments. A movie with a brain, it just doesn't know how tro connect to the rest of the body! I considered it a must have for any serious collector of movies. How can you not have the worlds most expensive porno movie!

Well i bought this movie do that my husband saw this when it came out in 1989 and i have never hear about it. He wanted me to see it so I got it from a seller that is fantastic i had the movie in my hand two days later. This movie is beyond a porno movie, and the things that you see in it, is incredible. We got two, one that is unrated that is not cut at all, this one is the real movie in 1989.
The real one is 1hrs and 56 min. And we got this one that it not bad at all. You see cruelty , love, passion, and much more. The director of this movie, had a imagination that was beyond uncontrollable. I have never seen a movie like this. It a movie that you can't believe that could happen in those days in Rome. And these actors, Malcolm McDowell, Peter O'Toole, would do such a movie like that, you will be special!!!
I recommend only adult to see it. It a collectible movie.

I thought the movie was good. Informative and entertaining. Caligula was clearly of his rocker. There was a few scenes of hardcore sex but thats how it was in that time. Do not know what all the fuss was about. If you do not want to see those scenes, then do not watch the uncensored version.
