Back & Better than ever!
Review created: 04/12/08

These standards are quite good even compared to the original artists. You can hear the Beach Boys qualities in the style. A good pick indeed! Very happy with almost every song.

Pros:
Unexpectedly good versions of songs by Neil Young, Jackson Browne and the Eagles.

Cons:
Plenty of predictably bad covers too.

This may very well be the most difficult review I ve ever had to write. After all, how can any of you out there ever look at me the same way, knowing that not only did I review this album in essence, an admission of ownership of it but that I didn t go all BigD on it. After having read this review, no matter how many supercool reviews I post, on however many supercool CDs, by supercool, hip bands-of-the-moment like the Scissor Sisters or Franz Ferdinand or Iron

Pros:
Great harmonies and voices, really works when it works

Cons:
Some pretty bad covers thanks to crappy production.

Anyone who was alive and breathing at the end of the 80 s probably has some recollection of the trio Wilson Phillips. Composed of Carnie and Wendy Wilson, daughters of The Beach Boys Brian Wilson and Chynna Phillips who is the daughter of Michelle Phillips of The Mamas and the Papas, the girls had it in their genes to be a pop group of worth. Their debut album was a smash with hits like the inspirational Hold On , the forlorn Release Me and the resolved You re In Love . I love the whole album and it definitely would be considered one of my favorites from that time. Their second album didn t...

 Some well done recycled music

Pros:
Good harmonizations, some good performances

Cons:
Some listless performances

Wilson Phillips are the daughters of 60's music icons of the Beach Boys and the Mamas and the Papas. So, genetically, they should've received some talent from their parents. They have. They also have a very California appearance in the cover of the album with their cascading hair and lithe bodies and pouting smiles. This is not a great album, but a very decent album. They do a few songs of their parents such as Dance Dance Dance, Monday, Monday. They are adequate performances that elicit comparisons to their parents. That part is not good. However, they do some very nice 3 part harmony with...
