Fans of classic jazz and Dixieland will enjoy this heated effort. Paris Washboard is comprised of clarinetist Alain Marquet, trombonist Daniel Barda, pianist Louis Mazetier and the washboard of Gerard Bagot; Gerard Gervois guests on tuba during half of the selections on this CD. Marquet's playing is so strong that it makes up for the absence of a trumpet. Together the quartet jams on trad standards and obscurities, with the highlights including "Down in Honky Tonk Town," "The Minor Drag," "Candy Lips," "Maple Leaf Rag" (in the spirit of Sidney Bechet's 1932 recording) and "There'll Be Some Changes Made." ~ Scott Yanow
