I am not new to cake baking, I love it, but for years I have kept my decorating simple, but a lot of times I wished for a nicer presentation with extra frills so I can get the "oohs and aahs." I by-passed a lot of professional cake decorating books, because most were impractical for the everyday baker, except to admire the photos and wish that could be your cake! The few I have bought in the past are now more or less coffee table books. Too pretty to hide, but not practical enough to use. With Joe LoCicero's "dummy book" it really makes it very simple even for someone just beginning to decorate, outside of letting the glaze drip down the bundt cake or a few fancy swirls with a knife on top of a two layer cake. If you are new to cake decorating then you will love this book because it covers some great topics on the ease of decorating, and recipes are included. The book helps to build your confidence on a step by step basis. Hints on transporting the cake and even how to professionally slice it....unlike my "sorry the pieces are not all the same size!" I really think this is a book I can get into because it is for us 'dummies' who have no idea how to creative a rose from frosting or make a cake outstanding, rather than just pretty.
