C.s. Lewis by C. S. Lewis (2005, Unabridged, Compact Disc)

Listening to audio books is a great way to stay alert commuting or on the road. CD's are best for newer cars. I love this convenience and safety!
Really not anything to dislike about these CD's other than the card-board sleeves are a little difficult to manage and may scratch the CD - just put these into a cheap CD wallet if the cardboard isn't convenient for you.
I decided to buy this anthology of several works as the price wasn't much more than "Mere Christianity" as a stand-alone volume. It also allowed me to take in some other works by C.S. Lewis that I was unfamiliar with.
It's obvious that at the time Lewis wrote "The Problem of Pain" he's been hood-winked by the myth that Evolution was a valid scientifically based theory - it's not - and he go through some convoluted reasoning to try to accomodate the Old Age Theory demanded by the Myth of Evolution. (He actually does a very good job trying to shoe-horn evolutionary Cosmology into a Scriptural framework!)
"The Great Divorce" is also interesting in it's attempt to accomodate a sort of Purgatory into a portrayal of Life After Death. He states at the start that this is a fantastical construct to attempt to convey certain aspects of the consequences of Moral Choices made by humans during our earthly life in this body. Basically the "Purgatory" is needed (not due to any Scriptural allusions!) to convey his idea (touched on in "Mere Christianity") that even given a "second chance" most people wouldn't change their choices made here on Earth in the Flesh. (Balance this with Christ's parable of the rich man and the beggar - the rich many KNEW he was in torment!) (Also Paul's words to the Church that "to be absent from the body is to be with the Lord.")
I'd read "The Screwtape Letters" before - the CD is really great - the reader's inflections, etc. are a great touch!
"Mere Christianity" is the gem here. It's what I was really after. The reader is excellent (my wife insisted we get the same recording we'd originally heard on Cassette Tape from the local library! It's the same guy!)
Frankly, reading the book myself is a chore for me - if I'm at all distracted I find myself having to back up and re-read a bit! This is such an excellent treatise on the core aspects of Biblical Christianity - I cannot recommend it highly enough! Lewis's use of "Logic" is a refreshing break from the "rut" of normal Church jargon and "christianese" we can all be lulled by.
Even if the reader/hearer does not agree with the things Lewis so excellently expounds upon - they WILL have much food for thought! Any dis-honest partaker (those not interested in learning - only in seeking "ammunition" to bolster their own "a priori" agendas) will likely sniff and turn up their noses at this work - they wouldn't want to be "confused by the facts" in most other areas either!
I highly recommend this collection of works - each in and of itself is very good and the exposure to all of them reiterates commons themes or points that are propounded by Lewis - and the Bible itself!
I don't think you'll be disappointed at all in acquiring these - you'll have hours of listening - and you CAN always "rewind" to get that difficult part over again!
