C.H.U.D. (DVD, 2001)

I first saw this film as a child and it scared the hell out of me. Years later, I picked it up on DVD and it is still just as good. Though the director and actors could have taken this project less-than-serously, they play it straight and I thank them for that. It portays some homeless people get mutated by toxic waste being stored under the New York City in the labyrinth of sewer tunnels under the city. It sounds cheesy, but its not since the film is played very seriously and straight. The film has a great atmosphere with the dark dingy tunnels of the sewers. What a great place to set a monster movie! I mean in reality there are miles of old tunnels under the city. The film just fells dingy and you can almost smell the stale stench. The monsters themselves look very good, espcecially for the budget this movie had. They just don't make movies like this anymore. One complaint I have about the DVD is the commentary. I was really glad they got the entire leading actors to return for it, but I was upset that they spent most of the time bashing the film. A lot of people put some very hard work into this movie, and they just sit their bashing their work. I was not impressed. Its a decent movie that deserves to be looked at.

This is an incredible movie. Very under-rated and not many people have heard of it. My one friend was always bugging me to watch it, telling me I won't regret it. I broke down and bought it finally... I was thrilled! CHUD has some classic actors in the movie (a couple later seen in the Home Alone movies). I recommend this movie to anyone who is in for a thrill, some laughs, some suspense, and an out of this world plot. Please keep in mind the movie was made in the early 80's and its doesn't boast amazing special effects. However, that's part of the beauty of this movie. Don't watch this movie with small kids.. Not a happy family fun film. Anyways, please do yourself and your brain a favor. Buy this movie and watch it. You WON'T regret it. Promise :)

A great cult classic! The film looked great on DVD! This would be an excellent late nite movie WITH the lights out!!

C.H.U.D. is an enjoyable campy 80's horror movie. A journalist(John Heard), policeman, and assorted other nutty characters are looking into a series of murders in what seems to be a city not unlike NY. They turn up Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers and a government conspiracy.
If you like Squirm or other silly horror movies you may like this one as well.

Also keep in mind this was an analog feature originally and hasn't been overly cleaned up so the video quality is not equivalent to current High definition formats.
