Jerry Smath at his Creative Best
This book is a Jerry Smath masterpiece!! It tells the story of Grandma Tildy, an elderly woman living alone, who agrees to buy pets, one at a time, from a salesman who is traveling South for the winter and thus has to get rid of all his pets. Grandma Tildy refuses to buy the salesman's elephant, claiming that her home is too small. Eventually she gives in, the house collapses under the elephant's weight, and the elephant begins walking towards the warmer regions while carrying the house. The story ends with Grandma Tildy ensconced in her new home in a warm place, where she has a sanctuary for all animals, especially elephants.
It's a very well illustrated book and it's been a favorite of kids the world over. And for good reason!!
