Publisher's Note The Burning Wood tells the story of Joshua Cardiff, a white Christian boy who is attracted by the pagan Native culture outside his small prairie community. After a Cree sun-dance ritual, Joshua "goes Indian," leading his new brothers on a buffalo hunt through cattle herds and becoming involved with a Cree girl. Through his trials, he comes to know the meaning of his family past and to seek a way of bridging the chasm formed by history between the two races.
