Review created: 12/11/09

GANGSTER FLICK~ WITH EDWARD G .ROBINSON AS THE FIRED COP WHO IS OUT TO BREAK UP THE MOB~

This is a very good movie with Humphrey Bogart in one of his early BAD guys roles as 100% EVIL JUST SHOOT THEM~ " Renner" who simply shoots his boss and moves UP in the mob~ Edward G. Robinson is the CHARMING COP who is fired when a new crime buster police commisioner is hired~ and decides the MOB is new "job" as he butts heads with Renner~ Joan Blondell is the pretty gal on the side who runs a number racket and Robinson uses to get a head in crime~ great plot~ moves along very well~ holds the attention~ and Bogart steals the show as the guy we wait to die~ movies were switched from the Hero Hoods to the G Men winning with the changing times ~ I GIVE IT AN 8 OUT OF 10 FOR CLASSIC GANGSTER MOVIES~

Edward G. Robinson as a flatfoot?!
Review created: 01/10/08

I've always enjoyed classic gangster flicks and have only now started to add them to my DVD collection and I vaguely remembered watching this as a kid with my pop. Well, I'm glad I bought this. The cinematogrophy coupled with great acting/directing and the premise to get the bad guy's great. Sure, it seems like a cliche', but you have to remember, this was back in the beginnings of 'talkie' films and just as usual Edward G. doesn't take any backtalk from anyone! I think within the first 10 minutes of the film, he slugs and dazes some two-bit punk gangster then hits 'em a second time, knocking him through a glass door. Yeah, he's still great. Another thing that I liked about this film was that Humphrey Bogart was also cast. Nothing like a well dressed, witty, tough talkin' gangster to make some trouble.....for everybody. Heh, if you like gangster flicks as much as I do, get this with no fear. You'll love it.

I collect old movies-this one is one of Edward G Robinson's early ones!It came in great shape, play's very well! This way of adding to my collection is fast, fun, and safe! The cost is better than doing my purchases this way.

Robinson Is Very Good as Fired Cop Turned Racketeer
Review created: 02/15/07

Bullets or Ballots (1936) is one of Warner Brothers' exciting, ripped-from-the-headlines gangster movies about a talented policeman (Edward G. Robinson) who is fired when a new police chief comes into power. Robinson is hired by gangster boss Barton MacLane, but the number two man in the outfit (Humphrey Bogart) is convinced Robinson is actually still working for the police as an infiltrator. Meanwhile, Robinson's friend (Joan Blondell) is threatened with ruin when Robinson and the gangsters move in on her numbers racket.

Robinson is as great as ever, and the rest of the cast is good too. I would have liked Frank McHugh's and Blondell's parts to be larger, because I enjoy their acting very much. Bogie makes a good enemy for Robinson.

The DVD and special features are top quality. This DVD is available individually or in the Warner Bros. Tough Guys boxed set.
