Bugsy Malone

This is one of the best 'feel good' movies ever made. It is truely a 'family heirloom'. We first found it by accident on a Saturday morning in the early '80's when flipping through channels. When we saw it was going to aired again we set up our VCR and recorded it. That video was watched so many times it has deteriorated. We never heard of it again. On a whim I recently did an internet search and found a FEW copies available on DVD and ordered this one. Not only are my now adult kids enjoying it again, but my grandson loves it too (he hasn't got the title yet, but asks for the 'singing girls and the guys with boom-booms that shoot ice cream'). We had friends over one evening not long ago while my grandson was watching it (yet again!) and they were drawn into it and enjoyed it too.
This was filmed in 1976 and stars Jodie Foster and Scott Biaio. It is set in 1920's gangster time. ALL of the actors are young people, there is not a single adult in the entire movie. The songs are fun--the finale is fantastic and catchy. The cars look like real gangster cars but are actually pedal cars! The guns shoot ice cream blobs-sort of like paint ball guns, so every battle looks like a food fight and so doesn't even resemble violence!
I highly recommend this movie to everyone, every age. It's just too bad it didn't recieve a more high profile release and distribution.
