Simple, Amusing, Delightful for the young child. GREAT!

I was first introduced to this book way back in the 70's when I was in 1st grade! I would take it home frequently to read. I loved the book so much. I was fascinated by the pictures and the simple but amusing story line. Somewhere along the line we must have gotten a copy of the book (school book sale maybe) because some years later, I remember reading the book to my little sister too! We both enjoyed it. It is a fine book for a young child to read on their own or to be read to.

The title of the book ("Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?") is frequently repeated throughout the book. The use of repetition is helpful to a young child with little reading experience. (The Dick and Jane books were based on repetition.) The book also teaches the colors. Each animal is of a different color. ("Red bird, red bird, what do you see? I see a yellow duck looking at me.") The rhyming makes the book easily memorized so that one could pick up the book and read it from memory simply by looking at the pictures.

Authored by Bill Martin and illustrated by Eric Carle (author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Quiet Cricket, and more).

This book should be a part of every young child's library.

During the 1970's while working as an elementary school teacher, I spent a summer studying under guidance of Bill Martin, Author of Brown Bear, Brown Bear. Over the years, I have given this books to many parents of 2 or 3 year olds. Within weeks of the parents reading this very catchy story, the 2 year old or 3 year old takes the book out of the parents hands and starts reading the book themselves. Actually, they are not reading, but they have memorized the story and with picture help, and they "read" the book. This gives them the confidence to start learning the actual words and soon take on other books. For many children, Brown Bear, Brown Bear will forever be "the first book I read". I have heard from parents years later that say that even when their children are seven, eight or even ten or twelve, they still go back to their favorite book, Brown Bear... It is my favorite book, too.
I recommend this book to parents of two and three year olds. Read the book to the child with great enthusiasm and fun and before they know it, the child will be reading the book on their own.

Our little boy of 25 months seem to be running late in word development.
Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin was requested by his speech therapist. Repetitive words, bright pictures and objects of interest to
a young child make this book perfect to learn from.

My daughter would come home from daycare reciting something over and over. Not realizing what she was reciting, we asked daycare and they said it sounded like "Brown Bear." We quickly went on half.com and bought the book for her. She was extremely happy when she saw that book and she can recite it word for word and she's only 2 years old. :)

The perfect book to introduce to your child
Review created: 04/23/09

I bought this book for my child because they read it at preschool during circle time and my child loved the rhythm and pictures in the book. Wow, this started a interest in the author and illustrator's other books. We started a collection. This book is very fun and colorful. I have my child 3 year old child read it back to me and we have so much fun. Great book to add to your child's library. A must have book! I later found out from my mother that this was a favorite of mine as a child when I was the same age and that this book was a spark to my interest in reading!

  wonderful first book for preschoolers!
Review created: 12/06/08

I read this book daily to my special needs preK students and they absolutely love it. One of my students has picked up the book and started reading it himself; he will sit at the table in our reading center, turning the pages and reading the book out loud. This little guy just turned 4 and loves this book. I had to buy a copy of it for my granddaughter because I know she is going to love it as much as my students do!!

I highly recommend 'Brown Bear, Brown Bear' to anyone who has a young child in their life.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? board book
Review created: 10/25/08

This is a great book for children. I bought the standard version and my granddaughter loved it. The problem was that at the age of 12 months, I couldn't let her manhandle the book. This board book version is fantastic. Meghan can hold it and turn the pages herself while I read or "read" it herself with no worries that she will ruin her favorite book.

I am a daycare provider and I purchased this book because I like Bill Martin books. I like this book because it used colors and animals both elements that the children like. It helps the children learn their colors. They ask me to read this book over and over again. I would highly recommend buying this book for your child.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear. By Bill Martin
Review created: 03/08/08

This is book is a must have for any teachers collection of books or for any parent or grandparent that would like their child to be read good literature. I have taken two college courses in Childrens literature and this is reveled by both colleges that I attended for both Undergraduate and Graduate levels. It can be located in all public libraries and books stores. If you ask an elementary school teacher she will smile and show the book to you.
