I was first introduced to this book way back in the 70's when I was in 1st grade! I would take it home frequently to read. I loved the book so much. I was fascinated by the pictures and the simple but amusing story line. Somewhere along the line we must have gotten a copy of the book (school book sale maybe) because some years later, I remember reading the book to my little sister too! We both enjoyed it. It is a fine book for a young child to read on their own or to be read to.

The title of the book ("Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see?") is frequently repeated throughout the book. The use of repetition is helpful to a young child with little reading experience. (The Dick and Jane books were based on repetition.) The book also teaches the colors. Each animal is of a different color. ("Red bird, red bird, what do you see? I see a yellow duck looking at me.") The rhyming makes the book easily memorized so that one could pick up the book and read it from memory simply by looking at the pictures.

Authored by Bill Martin and illustrated by Eric Carle (author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Very Quiet Cricket, and more).

This book should be a part of every young child's library.
