Album Notes Dire Straits: Mark Knopfler (vocals, guitar); Hal Lindes (guitar); Guy Fletcher, Alan Clark (keyboards); John Illsley (bass); Terry Williams (drums). Additional personnel: Sting (vocals). Recorded at Air Studios, Monserrat, West Indies. All tracks have been digitally remastered. BROTHERS IN ARMS found Dire Straits at the peak of a long climb in the music industry. After an auspicious debut with DIRE STRAITS, they stuggled on through personnel changes and shifting musical tastes. Knopfler's work with Bob Dylan (SLOW TRAIN COMING and some touring) and the band's appearance at Live Aid helped to keep their recognition high. This album proved to be the payoff, as "Money For Nothing" hit number 1, and the second single, "Walk Of Life" also made the top-10. Reviews The whole of the CD is very musical with a dynamic range not heard in todays compression heavy mastering. The songs themselves are icing on the cake. Then I lost the CD and forgot about it for years. The remaster is just better, sharper than any of the previous releases, and well worth the money. Its music is unique, hauntingly powerful in places and the very catching in others. I am a fan of music that goes beyond basic riffs and repetitive guitar and drum rhythms. I love music that is clever, rhythmically brilliant and intellectually stimulating. Brothers in Arms shines in all areas. Review ID: 10000000002655314 Was this review helpful? Report this review |
