Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

THIS THING THE MFC 5840 CN IS PURE JUNK I AM ON MY 5TH YES 5TH REPLACEMENT FORM BROTHER IT BOMBS ONLY AFTER A MONTH OR SO.... BROTHER WILL NOT WORK WITH ME ON A UP GRADE OR REFUND....THEY KEEP SENDING MORE JUNK TO ME IN HOPES ONE WILL WORK BEWARE DO NOT BUY A BROTHER PRODUCT. received my 6th BROTHER PRINTER TODAY AFTER AN HOUR AND A HALF IT BOMED AGAIN....AS USUAL THEY ARE SENDING ME ANOTHER MACHINE....SOONER OR LATER THEY HOPEFULLY WILL GET TIRED OF SENDING JUNK AND WORK WITH ME ON AN UPGRADE OR A REFUND.

This machine does practically everything! It scans in color, faxes without a computer attached, has a built-in multi-card reader, and connects to all of the machines on my home network with just one cable. It can scan a stack of papers (fast) with the built-in sheet feeder, and scan a book on the flatbed.

I have never called tech support for this machine, but I did call for a different model # 3820CN, and Brother was very helpful. Also, Brother's usa web site is great for downloading updated software and drivers if needed.

My MFC-5440CN printer burned out because I left it on all the time. This model has a sleep mode to prevent that. I leave it plugged as a FAX to my land line to discourage all of those annoying solicitors. It was listed as refurbished but looks and performs like brand new. To avoid problems in the future, I also bought the Square Trade buyer protection plan for 3 years. Haven't tried printing photos yet, but the dual paper trays are a big bonus.
I mainly use it for print, FAX, scan and copy, and couldn't get along without the ADF.
All in all, it's a great deal for the price!!!

The all in one capabilities are great, It is a little complicated though. The owners manual does not really help when there is a problem with printer

Pros: work fine, quick and cartriges easily findable, the compatibles work fine too and are very cheap! Good Fax and Scanner. A little bigger compared with MFC-5440cn but have two trays and the memory card reader.

Cons: as all Brothers I had used, it also has some problem with the printing system, some kind of cloging - perhaps due to the quality of the cartridge. Just verify if it is in working condition before you buy an used one and don't forget to calibrate the printing head in the link boton!

The product is excellant for the price. I have installed or setup several of these devices and the only problem is in the software installation the paper port portion hangs up or takes an extreme amount of time to complete.

This is hardworking equipment, and takes abuse well. The paper tray is loaded from underneath and within, all enclosed and dust free. Nice printer!
