Very capable and inexpensive all-in-one printer. My only reservation is the cost of the ink and the time it takes to use up each cartridge. The photo printing is excellent.

I was having trouble seeing the lcd screen also UNTILL I read the manual. There is an adjustment to darken the screen and now it is very EZ to read. I have only had it a couple days and have not had a chance to fax with it yet. I have mad some copies and played with the photo options. This is not a great printer for photos but that is not what I bought it for. More latter.

GREAT INEXPENSIVE ALL-IN ONE NO BRAINER

Decided to give this little guy a five star rating 'cuse the competition just can't catch-up! All complaints I've read are 100% unfounded due to lack of orientation with product manual. It's an inkjet, for crying out loud! Yes, it consumes ink like a hippo on weed. Nonetheless, thank God for quality ebay retailers with multiple ink cartridge packages for the price of one cartridge at retail. Last 12 pack I bought on ebay lasted a year with moderate printing. Reds are faded, but it still rocks for a small business and 2 kids at home. No problems of any of the ones previously described by spoiled users.
Pros: ALLLLLL
Cons: No USB cable included. Big deal.
Sue me for loving Brother products. Have had 3 in 10 years; all 3 work beautifully. Just make sure warranty is included and use a surge protector. Chiao

Brother Needs to Improve on This Model
Review created: 12/25/05
5 of 7 people found this review helpful.

We purchased the Brother MFC-210C due to a promotion at Staples. As we were in the market for an all-in-one it seemed like fate that this item was reasonably priced and could perform all the functions we need to succeed on eBay!

The printer is okay for moderate every day ultra small or single person office use. You must use a relatively heavy paper weight or the paper will jam. If a jam does occur you must open the scanning tray, and attempt to reach the paper through a very small opening. If the paper is too heavy the machine will not pull the sheet in and you must "help" it in. Be sure to have your page sit for a few seconds to dry.

The fax function is best if the faxes being sent are kept to a maximum of 5 pages. In order to fax, you must place each page on the scanning screen, have the page scanned and then tell the machine if there is an additional page or if it is the end of the fax.

We have tried to use the photo capture/scanning function to no avail. It has been 3 months and we still can not get it to work. Oh well! We have also not tried the photo printing function.

As others have pointed out, it is relatively hard to view the LCD screen unless the contrast is very light and you are a certain angle.

In closing, I would probably pass on this machine if you need it any sort of an office function.

  Excellent photo prints

I picked up a non-working unit at a garage sale. It acted as if someone was switching the power on and off continuously. Went to Brother's web site and reloaded the firmware. Now it works perfectly. Here are my observations:
- From some of the user forums I visited while looking for clues on how to fix this printer: be ready to trash the printer (unless under warranty) if you get an "error 41" (bad printer head). This is not an easily replaceable item. Looks like it happens quite often with these printers.
- For home use, this printer is the best compromise in size and functions. Everything is done from the front, and unless you are scanning large books, it uses very little vertical space.
- If you are planning on refilling the cartridges, make sure you use a reputable brand. I refilled the black cartridge and now it occasionally dries up on the printer head. If I use the printer daily, then no problems.
- In photo mode, this printer prints EXCELLENT photos. Very impressed. It takes about 4 minutes for a 4x6 print, but worth the wait.
- Have a set of cartridges ready in case one of them runs low. The printer will not let you even fax if one of the cartridges goes low. Actually, if you use black electrical tape to block the cartridge sensor, you can keep using the printer.
- The little LCD could definitely use a backlight. It defaults to this washed out contrast level, but it can be set to a more visible dark.
- I am totally in love with this printer, even with all its flaws. Its just so compact and yet so versatile. I am definitely getting another one, if anything as a backup.

Depends what you want it for.... Brother MFC-210C

Like others I had display contrast issues, but it really is easy to adjust so don't let that stop you from buying this printer. It is great for everyday printing, it is very good quality. The copy function has come in handy many times, but if you want to fax multiple page documents, look for a machine with ADF (automatic document feeder) function. Otherwise you will have lay a page flat, scan it, put in another, etc. In other words you have to have the time to sit and baby sit it, you can't just load it and walk away. Also if you do a lot of heavy printing daily, be prepared to replace the ink OFTEN for a hefty price. Approximately $25 per color, there are 4 cartridges. And if your ink is low, it will not LET you print until you put more in it. Even if it is just the Yellow that is low and you want to print black and white. The cost is reasonable for the unit itself. If you want to use multiple paper types, forget it. I wanted to print on envelopes and labels. Envelops always jam, and it is a real pain to clear it out and start over. I wanted to print on half sheet labels, they jam about 50% of the time. Also if you put too much paper in, it will jam. It is not easy to load 4x6 photo paper to print photos, but if you can get it in there, it does print photos nicely. Last but not least, you definitely want to wait several minutes for ink to dry before handling, otherwise you will smudge and smear your printouts.

  Brother MFC-210C printer review

Basic printing and scanning work easily, however, it drinks ink like water. With some documentation in book form and other portions on CD, its a bit of a pain to do the set up. So far, it has worked well, but I don't print much either. It is already needing ink though. It is cheap to buy but expensive to maintain. If I had it to do over again, I'd probably spend more on an HP printer and not have to be concerned with refills for a long time.

I'll like the convenience of having all in one. Unfortunately this one did not deliver what is promised. The printer goes in cleaning cycle too many times during the day and the ink does not last. As new, it last it only 6 months and broke. It was replaced under warranty by a refurbish one wich it only lasted 7 months. The printer overheats and stops working. You are not sure when is going to work whenever you need it. I would not recommend it.

The price was right, or at least I thought it was.Could have bought it at store for $10.00 more and not had all the trouble I had getting this one, and then when I did get it, it did not work . Seller was impossible to work with, went to the co. that made it and then I got a refurisbed one, which I could have bought for 1/2 the price I paid. Seller did not answer e-mails, got 3 different shipping co., had to file a claim with e-bay to even get it. Took about 30 days. He (seller) was taken off e-bay , by e-bay, so something was really wrong. Be sure who you are buying from, check them out. I learned a big lesson.

Design is good. Multiple functions in one unit is also great. Compact size. But I can't understand: if one cartridge goes empty the whole machine gets paralized till you get a new replacement. Even when i want to make black copy and at the same time I am out of cyon ink I can't do anyhting right away. Strange.

  Really disapointed with the printer
Review created: 10/15/05

The printer's LCD screen is almost impossible to read! If you put your eyes directly above it, you can see nothing. I think they should put these kind of instructions in their manual: 1. Put your eyes about 60 degree and 1 meter away against the machine; 2. Improve your vision if you don't have a good one; 3. Read LCD screen with pain.
I don't have good vision, so I could not read it. When I installed it, I asked my wife to read the instruction on the LCD screen for me. I could not imagine such a stupid design can be put in production!

The printer is heavy and the whole design is bad. The printer is crumby.

The reason I bought it was beccause of its promotion. However, I returned it immediately the second day because I don't want my wife to help me read the LCD instruction every time when I need fax, copy or configure. I'll look like an idiot then.

Let seller keep product, bid was an accident. My 8 year old son was playing on my computer and accidentally made a bid on the product. I did not need it so I let the seller keep it but I still paid for the product. Lesson learned!!

I wanted to use up some LC41 cartridges I had left over after my old brother all in one died. But, you get what you pay for. Gloria misled me into thinking that it worked but she knew it did not. Take my advice and go but a new one at Walmart with the ink included in your purchase. It is cheaper and much less of a headache.

  Brother MFC 210C Printer/fax/copier/scanner
Review created: 07/10/09

This is a small, versatile printer, fax, copier, scanner...not oversized like many others I have seen so it fits nicely onto an already crowded desk without taking up much room. Easy to program and operate. Ink cartridges are inexpensive and very available on eBay! I am very happy with it.

The most I love is that it takes very little space for what it does.
Price is really affordable. Printing quality is fair. Reliability is good.
Easy to operate, mostly intuitive.
