Brother HL-1440 Laser Printer

I like that the HL-1440 printer is perfect for light to medium office printing. I ti a great printer for small organizations that need to print. I have not had a problem with this printer. I have had this printer since last year and I have not had to change out the cartidge either. I recommend this printer to anyone who has grown tired of replacing ink cartridges for the ink jet printers every 3 months or so.

This is a great printer. I have used this printer for 5 years now. We have printed about 30,000 pages in those 5 years. This printer rarely jams. Only recently has the Drum Light come on to have us change the Drum. Overall this is a great Printer for all purposes.

This printer is very reliable. Every file I print with this printer looks good. I also own a HP Laserjet 5170DN which does print faster, for most jobs, but it often prints black boxes where pictures are supposed to be. The HL-1140 prints the pictures correctly.

this printer is excellet for home use even when pritiing large amounts of documents. it is fast, reliable and very clear all the time. the fact that you can upgrade the onboard memory is also very appealing.

This is a work horse of a printer. The drum and toner can be bought cheaply. It lasts for years and years. I own four of them.

You know I don't understand the other posters to give this printer a poor rating based on packaging??? I mean that says nothing about the quality of the printer. Let me say that I've had this printer for 5 years and I absolutely LOVE IT! It prints crisp clear pages and card stock. It takes a few seconds to start printing but that never bothered me. What's 10 seconds? This is an awesome printer. When I needed to upgrade to a wireless printer I went with the wireless version of this printer. I can't say enough good about this no nonsense printer. Only purchased toner ONCE in 5 years.

I have owned several brands of printers (cannon, HP, etc) in the past but currently use about six of these in my business. The only one I have had fail printed over a hundred thousand copies before a part broke. You can now buy these printers dirt cheap as people upgrade their systems (printers are cheaper than the toner cartridges). Toner cartridges and parts are largely interchangable between the 1240 and 1440 so I only have to keep a small backup set of supplies. Copies are clear. Printer has both USB and parallel printer connections which helps with some older computers. I have had very little trouble with this printer even when we upgraded computers to XP and then Vista. Drums are expensive so if one goes bad, look for another used printer. I salvaged the drum, paper tray, power cord, and toner cartridge from the one that broke, and junked the rest. Buy the high capacity cartridge when replacing toner and it will last forever in normal home or light office use. The only drawbacks to this printer are that it is not really fast, and it is not the best printer to use if you are printing on cardstock (tends to jam or mis-allign) or odd size paper. Overall it is a CHAMP for the money for typical printing needs.

Had mine for over a year. Great home printer. Nothing special, it just does what it was design for, cheap printing. Quality is great and clear. No paper curls, which is not the case for a comparable HP laser printer. The initial ink doesn't last as long, but the TN-460 ink cartridge should last you forever once replaced. If you ever get static like prints you are running very low on ink. If you don't care, you could keep going for a few hundred more pages. Overall, Excellent buy.

I have had no durability problems with this printer, and I have used it for almost 2 years. I have printed thousands and thousands of papers, shipping labels, you name it. I have yet to replace the toner, it still prints like a dream, and quickly too.

The only problem I have is that it will not load thick paper. Very frustrating if you want to print up special documents.

I bought a used model because my own had been destroyed by a power surge (even though I had a surge protector.) Unfortunately the one I bought (from qsauctions) was horribly packaged with loads of broken, USED styrofoam (talk about cheap)and probably some of them got into the machine. The bottom lin eis that the machine lasted less than three weeks of use. It turns on but will not print anything. My original machine lasted for years and was a superb printer. This rating is for the bad machine I got, and again that may well have had to do with the pathetic packing qsauctons did. I would buy another Brother, but I would not buy from qsauctions (who also has ignored my requests to respond!!!)

Have owned a 1440 since i found one cheap ($50) a couple of years ago.
I do very light printing, only when its needed, and i havent yet changed the toner! Not the fastest on the block, but handles standard printing just fine.

After some research and finger crossing, ive found one of the cheapest ways to add network printing, is the Netgear PS101 parallel print server. Using the PS101, all of my machines can now configure a new network printer, use the stock drivers and print!

good discription, good item, vert satisfied with seller. Product was deliverd immediatly on payment. Very good service. I am happy with product.

Had mine for a year. Good quality, decent speed. This isn't designed for office use, with heavy-duty cycles. For a home laser it's great, mostly due to the low price.

Two problems:

1) would not work with a hawkins print server (Brother web site says it's incompatible with print servers) and

2) really wierd problem, printing titles/header/footer backward in Microsoft Streets & Trips (2004 and 2005 versions). No problems with any other software.

I needed this brand of printe because I had one that didn't work & wanted to use the ink and other parts from it.

The seller was nice but kept procrastinating bout shiping it.

The printer seems like its probably nice, BUT IT HAS NO CORDS....HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO PLUG IT IN??

The printer was very clean, I really like the web site which explains trouble shooting and cleaning procedures. Works fast on demand, had a little trouble deciding what software at (brother.com) was needed. My dell computer did not recognize and easily guide me to the correct printer software. After removing the HP + 4 program off my computer there was nothing installed from Brother.com even though I downloaded, unzip and rebooted my computer. Currently the software that made the printer on my computer work was selected from my computer. Since the computer didn't have HL-1440 as a selection I used HL-1660 not sure if there are any problems. We just received the printer late yesterday so its still really early to tell if there are any problems.

The good news is that the printer was shipped promptly after payment. The bad news is that it was very poorly packed and this resulted in the printer arriving slightly damaged. One small plastic piece was broken off of the printer, and the metal support bar that resides under the paper tray was bent. I bent the bar back into position and the small plastic piece appears to be irrelevant to the function of the printer because it now works just fine. This seller could be more thoughtful in the packing process, especially when shipping electronics.

Seller stated toner not included. When printer arrived it also did not have a drum. Email from on July 20 said the drum would be shipped ASAP. Still do not have drum.
