I truly thik this was an amazing movie. It took me to a place I had never been before, and made me realize the life some people live. I think that if you watch this movie with an open mind it will touch you. Even if you do not agree with that way of life you can not help but to feel the pain that these two share. I was numb at the end! Even though I could not talk my husband into watching it, I stayed up late after the kids were in bed and cried my eyes out. This is really a great love story, regardless of gender!

  Gay Cowboys in Love
Review created: 08/08/07

There was so much controversy about this film that was all based on the misunderstanding of the message.
This is a not a “gay cowboy movie “ This is not about Gay sex. It is about 2 men who love each other in a time and place where than can not be themselves. If you think there are no gay cowboys think again.
It is a story of LOVE, missed chances and lost love. The sex scene is so deluded that it could be on prime time.
It is a story about 2 People who can’t be themselves and have to hide and never bee happy as themselves.
It is a sad and at time heartbreaking story that may change your heart.
You will see more graphic gay sex on cable. This move is not about sex...it's about love

I know alot of people have said that this movie wasnt good and that 2 homosexual men having an affair isnt their type of movie , but the movie is alot more than that ,and personally I think if anyone truely gives this movie a chance including critics that will say it is a bad movie even though they never seen it is alot like someone saying that they hate chocolate , even though they never tried it and hundreds of thousands of people do. I rented this movie here soon after it was released and was weary and I fell in love with this movie and I bought it , and im sure alot of people just like me will enjoy it as much as me .

One of the most compelling love stories of all time. A must see. This movie touches subjects that are not comfortable for most of us but you need to look beyond this and see this movie for what is really is, a wonderfully scripted piece of art. Please open your minds and hearts, sit back and enjoy a great movie that will touch you in ways you never thought possible.

A moving story of true love between 2 men VERY MOVING

i love this movie. I know when I heard people talking about this movie, i didn't want to watch it. I had heard that it was very explisive but it is not. I know alot of people have a hard time understanging the gay community but this movie changed my insight on gays. It is a movie about two men who meet on a sheep hearding job. They end up in love and they can only see each other once or twice a year. Both men have a wife and children but they take time to go to Brokeback Mountain to see each other. About 20 years from the day they met, one of the men die and so the other has a hard time getting on with his life. I rate it an A movie. I love this movie and I now have a VERY STRONG respect for the gays. This movie is a MUST SEE. It will make you realize that EVERYONE finds love even if it is in the same sex. It will make you sad too. I hope my review was helpful!!!

Must See for all, Gay or Not!
Review created: 08/03/07
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

A serious and insightful film delving into the Taboo topic of the Gay lifestyle. This is a realistic portrayal of the hardships and internal turmoil as well as the rewards of being gay. It is refreshingly nonsexual story with the exception of the strongly suggested interaction in the tent, of a couple ranch hands finding themselves drawn together. Heath's performance as a gay man, being pursued by Jake's character, fighting the feelings within himself and desperately trying to live a heterosexual mainstream life was brilliant and well captured. Jake equally performed well in his role of the cautious but persistent pursuer. Unfortunately as with many movies of this genre the movie ends on an extremely sour note which ripped away the tone of the movie as a whole. It leaves you wondering about the choices you make and the costs of the ones you don't. Whether you are gay or not, this movie is a Keeper and will be in library. Thanks for reading!

  Ennis and Jack
Review created: 01/12/07
6 of 12 people found this review helpful.

Love has no rules. It happens when we least expect it, often when we don't want it, many times when we can't handle it. It often times scares you, surprises you, shakes you down to your very core. Ennis Del Mar (a remarkable Heath Ledger) and Jack Twist (an emotionally available Jake Gyllenhaal) find themselves thrown together because of a job: forced to spend many hours together alone in the wild, tending to sheep in a remote region of Wyoming....on Brokeback Mountain. They fall in love: a love that they soon realize only lives and breathes on the mountain.
It's 1963, pre American involvement in the Vietnam War, post Korean War: a time in the USA when life was simple, straightforward and the lines between the sexes and sex roles were crisply drawn and severely delineated. It was a time when men and women were pigeon-holed into unrealistic modes of behavior and anyone who ventured outside of these boundaries was thought of at best, weird at worst... perverted and in many states, criminal. Ennis himself, at an early age was witness to the ugly, disgusting results of a hate crime perpetrated on a Wyoming farmer who had lived many years with his partner. In most societies he would be venerated but in 1950's Wyoming... he became a target.
Director Ang Lee begins this film as both Ennis and Jack are waiting outside of a building, both looking for work, both down on their luck, both avoiding each other's eyes. We know, or those of us who have read the story know, what is to happen and so unfortunately we read more into that simple scene than there really is. But with all that aside, this scene of Ennis and Jack avoiding each other, dodging each others looks, staring at the ground, kicking up the dirt is nonetheless rife with sensuality and tension.
Ennis and Jack are inexorably drawn to each other through their proximity, loneliness and through a shared lack of tenderness and emotion in their lives: they are emotionally, physically and psychically bonded almost from the start. It is inevitable. It is Fate.
And so begins a Love affair that transcends social mores, time, marriages, children, extra-marital affairs and divorce.
Despite all that is going on in their lives, Ennis and Jack meet several times a year up on Brokeback mountain and rekindle and thereby re-ignite their emotional and physical attraction: there is no one around, they are free from their regular lives...they can love.
Much has been made of Heath Ledger's performance as Ennis and he gives what is without a doubt one of the finest performances of this year. Ennis is a quiet, stoic man and he is troubled and frankly scared by how deeply he feels for Jack. As he showed us first in "Monster's Ball," Ledger is capable of digging way deep down into his gut and imbuing his performances with an unflinching frankness and truth that we can neither ignore nor help to be moved by.
Gyllenhall's Jack is the younger of the two: he's fun, he's a little crazy and unfortunately he wants a lot, lot more than Ennis is able to give him. Gyllenhaal's hang-dog, frisky puppy of a performance is full of warmth and light: the kind of transcendent light that shines out from a soul full of love, understanding and acceptance.
"Brokeback Mountain" is devastating in both its presentation, its performances and its tragic denouement. This movie is not for everyone. But if you are willing to open up your heart and mind a bit to let in its beauty, emotionality and sensuality you will not be disappointed. In fa

A job herding sheep on Brokeback Mountain unites Jack and Ennis. They discover a love that will connect them for the rest of their lives. Jake Gyllenhaal and Heith Ledger are outstanding in Ang Lee's powerful romance. The movie does not deserve the R rateing. PG-13 is much more fitting. Everyone should see this great film!

Although I had heard loads of positive hype about "Brokeback Mountain," I wasn't eager to spend nearly two hours watching a film about "gay cowboys." But this is, in fact, an exceptional work in every sense of the word: story line, acting, cinematography, and down right "emotional punch." It is a story that is much more than a gay cowboy flick, but rather one that challenges all conventional definitions of love and sexuality. Ang Lee has dared to give us a masterpiece for the ages and, trust me. . .we will be talking about his film for quite some time to come. All of us--straight and gay--need to see this work and, more importantly, spend some time afterwards discussing it.

I am a sucker for romance, any way, shape, or form...after all isn't love what it's all about? It's not about who you love that matters, but rather how you love that really counts... this movie should have won best picture for 2005...it is an awesome-landmark film...when will the whole world get it???

I was curious about this movie and I wanted to see it. I had heard a lot about it. I watched the trailer of this movie, and the first time that I saw it I was grossed out. I watched it again a few days later and I could see that it was more than just a couple of guys getting it on. I could see that this was a love story.
My husband wouldn't go with me to see it at the movies, so I bought the DVD. I watched it while my husband was at work. I was right it is a love story.
It's a love story that can touch your heart and tear it up at the same time. I don't believe in same sex relationships, but these two guys were more than that. They had a love for each other that was bigger than themselves. You could see that they were only going through the motions of life when they were with their real families. They only came alive when they were together. They existed only for the time when they could be together. They made you want them to find happiness and a life together.
The ending of this story was harsh. It was a sign of the times. Their love might have had a chance at happiness in todays times, but not back in the time that this story took place. Jack's mother knew that Enis loved her son. She knew what their relationship to each other was. She also knew that this man loved her son as much as she did. This fact comforted her in her time of grief.
If you have an open mind and can look beyond two men having a thing for each other. If you can see the love and the ache that they feel for each other, then who am I to say that their love is wrong.

A Christian who loved this movie

I am a Christian and I found this movie to be a revelation. I believe in the message of Jesus Christ that we should love one another for we are all sinners in the eyes of God. This movie made me think about my own bigotry about homosexuals and made me realize the pain that bigotry causes. The acting is amazing and the story line is heartbreaking. You would have to be cold hearted Evanglical not to feel something.

A Distasteful Movie That I Would Not Recommend
Review created: 04/19/06
6 of 22 people found this review helpful.

Brokeback Mountain is a movie that has been both praised and also ranted about. I, for my part, do not think that this was a movie worth the money to either see in theaters or bought for a personal collection. This movie tells the story of two cowboys in Wyoming who fall in love and live a private homosexual life keeping their affair from society's knowledge. I felt that this was a distasteful movie and even though the acting was good, the content was enough to make me dislike this movie overall. I, for myself, would not recommend this movie to anyone.

Brokeback Mountain is in essense, a true American love story. It's use of beautiful cinemtography really draws the attention of the viewer, and though there is little talking you cannot look away from the screen. There is not a single boring moment, and the story is beautiful. The actors are wonderful, the script and the direction styles are amazing as well.

This is a really good movie, with a lot of talk of the things that happened in it. But the scenery is so beautiful, and to anyone male or female being out there it could happen. Loneliness can bring lots of things. They never planned on a love like that but we all hope for what they found.

New American Classic. Photography, script, acting are superb. Musical score is beautiful. I really think this film is a work of art. I don't remember seeing a film like this before. It all fits so perfectly. Not one false move. Flawless. AND. The story and people ring so true. I truly think this is a classic motion picture. On every level. It says so much, if you listen. And watch. I love this movie.

If you think this is just a movie about a couple of gay cowboys you couldn't be more wrong! This is one of the greatest american love stories ever told. The heart wrenching tale of a love that couldn't be will break your heart and possibly make you rethink a thing or two. I highly recommend this film!
