First the reason why I choose this car seat. I researched several different car seats in all price ranges, in my research I found that this is the safest car seat on the market. The Britax Decathlon has a 5-point harness that fits snugly over the his shoulders, collarbone and hips providing a more secure fit, 3-position crotch strap, HUGS system, belly pad and push button harness adjuster to help secure him. The removable washable seat cover, toddler head pillow and infant positioning system provides a comfortable, adjustable fit as my son grows. This is a convertible restraint seat for children from 5 to 65 pounds. Rear facing weigh requirements are from 5 lbs to 33 lbs, forward facing weigh requirements are up to 65 lbs.

HUGS (Harness Ultra Guard)System
This feature is designed to better distribute webbing (Straps) loads to reduce head movement and minimize the chance for webbing edge loading on the child's neck in the case of an impact. It is also designed to reduce the chance of improper positioning of the chest clip.

Installation
I have an Acura TL, not a small car but not a large one either. It fits perfectly but it was a tight fit getting it buckled into the LATCH fittings. The instruction and owners manual is connected to the car seat so my suggestion is read it before getting the car seat in the car because it's almost impossible to read while in position.

Comfort
My son loves his car seat, he's able to nap without his head floping all over the place. The seat is able to recline and the HUGS system keep him snug and in the safest position.

Economics
I'm no richie and I know the price may scare some away, but I saved for it and bought it for him for his birthday. It's also a small price to pay for the peace of mind that in case something happens your little one will be safe.

Britax Decathlon- SUPER safe and reliable

I have had two Britax Decathlons for over 2 years now- one in each of our cars. While it is certainly NOT the most stylish/ flashy seat on the market, it's very sturdy and reliable. (and those are the two most important things to me!) I originally purchased this car seat when my son was 4 months old because he HATED his Eddie Bauer infant travel system. I mean- he would SCREAM in the car the entire time! So I was ready to move him up to the next level. Once we moved him to the more upright car seat, he seemed to do a little better (but I finally decided he just wasn't a car traveler- until we turned him forward and got a DVD player!). I will list the positives and negatives below (the positives FAR outweigh the negatives, by the way)

Positives:
1. Safe- as I mentioned before- this thing is like a tank! It's very sturdy and secure. Once you get it installed properly- just try to move it an inch. Good luck! The construction is solid and I feel very good having my son in it.
2. Ease of use- Once installed, it is very easy to loosen or tighten the straps to fit around your child. It's also very easy to buckle in place.

Negatives:
1. Installation is not easy- some people might argue this point, but I have a hard time with installation. So much so, that once we get it installed in our car, we try our best to not have to move it out. The LATCH belts are hard to tighten- especially if you are as nutty as I am about getting the seat to where it won't even budge a half inch. And even worse than the LATCH belts is the harness (?) strap. I feel like I need WD40 or something to loosen it up enough so that I can tighten it. I have it perfect now- so I definitely do NOT want to have to move the car seats!
2. Bulky- the seat DOES take up a lot of room in the back seat.

Because safety was my primary concern- the 5 stars I give it for safety have much more weight than the two negative items. However, I did only give this seat 4 stars due to the difficulty of installation- particularly with the belts (tightening). And I dread having to move up the straps as my son grows because you have to take the car seat out to do that!
