A Brit Among the Hawkeyes
I bought this book as some friends almost fit the story, he's British and she is from Nebraska. The book contains very short stories, 2-3 pages each describing Lord Acton's observations of life as a member of the British House of Lords and living in Iowa. He spends half his time in London, and the other half in Iowa. The stories appear to be bits he wrote for an Iowa newspaper. With so many short pieces, some are great, while others are clunkers. Some are quite predictable, wondering why Americans put up with non-dairy creamer for example, but others are quite heartwarming stories about people he meets in the American Heartland. It is a fast read, as you do want to read as many stories in one go. It is overall enjoyable, but probably not one you would reread.
