Bringing Home the Birkin by Michael Tonello (2008, Hardcover)

This is the kind of book you take into the tub and stay up wayyy too late at night reading. Part mystery, part adventure – a dumbded down Michelin guide to Europe. At the very least, this book is a great education for anyone considering a Birkin purchase. Tonello’s sarcasm had me giggling out loud and utterly depressed when the last page was turned. I wanted the story to continue and if he was still doing hair, I’d hunt him down for more highlights!

Michael is a beautician who stumbles into the world of selling on ebay and accidentally discovers how to buy the coveted birkin without getting on the two year waiting list. I liked it because I am an Hermes collector and know or at least know of several of the characters in his book. The book is funny, engaging and a real page turner. Michael is a very engaging writer. I recommend the book for anyone interested in high fashion or if you ever want to buy the mysterious birkin.

A really funny look at the world of Ebay, Hermes, world travel & shopping for a bargain. It was a great read. I would recommend it to anyone who likes a laugh & adores Hermes.

This is a great light-hearted chic read. It has romance and insight that are appreciated equally. The narrative so eloquently tells his story. You feel that he is a good friend sharing his triumphs and tribulations. In the end, he is a survivor of all things and Hermes.

I love this book! It was hilarious! And the fact that its all true..just makes it even better. Hilarious, snarky and fun. To top it all off, well-written. A delight, if you like this sort of thing. And I do. I read about it in the New York Times newspaper and also in the New York TImes Book Review. I couldnt put it down. Hilarious! This book made me laugh out loud (something I rarely do while reading)! The stories that Mr. Tonello has about his career as a Hermes reseller on ebay are an absolute riot! It actually makes me want to try out "the formula" myself!

I enjoyed this book immensely - it was very well written and I really couldn't put it down.

If you are destined to be with this bag that everyone is willing to give up a couple of years for then this book is for the birkin lover, birkin soul mate, or the birkin newbie. You can really relate to how the author or MT's style of writing to how we would be talking to long time friends. ENJOY!!!
