This is a very good book about the gambling industry. It gives you a sense of being right there with the action. The best and brightest math students at M.I.T. form a blackjack club and take Vegas for millions. They also pay for their success by having casino owners and the Las Vegas underworld start watching them.
I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to know what basically goes on in a casino. Also the movie The Last Casino is very similar to this.

GREAT read even if you don't gamble. Story moves quickly, lots of suspense, and very smart. Author does a great job of present and past events to help story along.

The book is very well written and entertaining. With all of the new casinos going up, and having seen Rain Man, I wanted to see whether I could possibly win at Blackjack. I see what was involved, and I think that I will continue to go to the casino, but only for the buffet. But, if you can put together a highly intelligent team, and have a lot of money to invest, it is possible to make a sizeable fortune.

It was fast shipping. There was nothing that I didnt like about it. I decided to buy this book because I was interested in the whole story, and I decided to buy it from this seller because it had a good track record and it was the cheapest.

When can I go to Vegas?
Review created: 10/09/08

Having seen the movie "21" I was curious how this book would be. Well, as usual, the book far surpasses the movie. I'm not sure if non-gamblers would enjoy this book as much as I did, but it was a fun fast read. It was also interesting to read the chronology of Vegas's growth and the darkside of that scene. I really felt like I was there with those kids. Overall great read - hmm - maybe I can be a card counter too???!!!

Much like the movie "21" with a bit more detail about the characters involved and how they did it. I bought it after seeing the movie. If you like rooting for the underdog, you'll like this book.

  Great book

True story about how MIT students used basic math to defeat the casino's advantage at 21. Fascinating and fun, good example of how to legally defeat the casino's at their own game. My buddy uses this system and has now been barred from 3 casino's. There is nothing illegal or immoral or unethical about what is shared in the book, thats what I like the most, it just beats the casino's advantage fair and square, I'd recommend this book.

  AWESOME! CAN'T PUT IT DOWN!!
Review created: 07/24/08

Well, I had heard of the story, and I absolutely loved the movie. It is tough for me to find books that keep me interested and if they don't I get bored very quickly. Ben Mezrich does an outstanding job of forcing me to turn the page. This book was just as outstanding as the movie and the easy-to-read style makes it even more enjoyable. I would reccommend this book to anyone who is interested in poker or just someone who loves thriller books.

An amazing true story that i wish i could be a part of
Review created: 03/09/08

This was an amazing book and i would highly reccomend it to anyone who is even slightly interested in gambling. It is an extremely well written novel about how a few people took vegas through blackjack. The team of MIT students with the help of a leader took common card counting theories and developed them into a method much harder for the casinos to catch. The plot is exciting, the writing is descriptive, and the action is tremendous. Without giving the story away, there are many in depth methods and signals to trick the house. This is not the common how to beat the house at blackjack book. I don't know if there would be to many people out there that could duplicate the methods the real life people in this book used. This is also a good read for people who like puzzles. Mixed with a little action. Not a tough read, but definately a great one.

It was an exciting adventure story . I was just curious how these guys outwitted the casino.
Were they geniuses or just figured out a system and made it work for them.
I used to think casinos were fun but as Ive aged Ive seen them as money making businesses that lure the public in with lights and pornography and false hope.
It truly is sin city. Where did people lose their way in life. This book just
confirms my beliefs I have about casinos. What people will do for money is scary and stupid. Yes they did it and got away with it...but the stress of always getting caught and the mistrust among the players on the team..was it worth it all in the end....read the book ..you decide..

I read this book straight through, I just didn't want to stop reading. This book is very well written. It just keep you guessing on what was going to happen next! I love the whole story how just some everyday average people with a gift of mathmatical brains could take on Vegas. I have already passed this book on to another friend and the same thing, she couldn't put it down either. I would definately recommend this book to everyone!!!
