Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jen Lancaster (2007, Paperback)

My only complaint about "Bright Lights, Big Ass" is that is it disjointed and difficult to follow at times. Less of a continuous story than its predecessor, "Bitter is the New Black," this book is more of a series of essays. I wish the segues would have been a bit different and the timelines clearer. I started off some essays confused as to where she was living and working.

That said, Jen Lancaster's writing is still spectacular and hilarious. The flow is most likely her editor's fault. If you liked her first one, you'll like this one.

I'm going to give the third one a try in hopes its flow is better than this one. Because really? I do love Jen.

I decided to buy this book because I read Ms. Lancaster's first book Bitter is the New Black and loved it! So, I figured the second one had to be just as good and it totally was...actually it was better I think! For never having read a book for pleasure in my life (I'm 27), I could not stop reading this one. I would read it before work, at lunch, before bed, whenever I had a few extra minutes. Not only did it keep my interest, but it was hilarious. I have never laughed out loud while reading ANYTHING, like I did while reading this book. And the best part, is almost anyone can relate in some way to Jen. She's one of those women who says what everyone else thinks. I'm now on her 3rd book, Such a Pretty Fat, and I can't put that one down either! Highly recommended readings!

The 2nd in a series of 3 that are out right now by the uber-talented Jen Lancaster. You will not regret this laugh-out-loud continuation of a woman's sarcastic journey from the top to the bottom and finding her way back to the middle. Read "Bitter is the New Black" first so you have a set up for the characters and the story will flow. I couldn't put it down and truly enjoyed belly laughing at her antics.

It's like having a conversation with my best friend. LOVE IT!!!

The humor of Jen Lancaster in this book is going to keep you reading until you reach the end! I reccommend this book to anyone looking for a good laugh.

I purchased this book after becoming enthralled with her newest book: Such A Pretty Fat. The writing is clever, stimulating and she presents dead on summarizations of people and situations. This book did NOT disappoint. I have been stuck in the murder/mystery genre, and was compelled to purchase SUCH A PRETTY FAT after reading a small review in People Magazine. I could NOT put this one or her other two books down. The wit, and humor are "laugh out loud" hysterical. The book is slightly peppered with a few choice words, but none are gratuitous just to write them on paper, and more to emphasize her point. I could envision her as my newest best friend, as I could completely relate to EVERYTHING she writes about. My only disappointment was that she wasn't sitting in my living room telling me these hysterical situations personally. Her humor may NOT be for everyone, but if you are sarcastic, narciassistic, and have a few pounds to spare that you aren't completely freaked out about-and can find humor in-then I thionk that you will ADORE this book as much as I have.

It's hilarious! If you like her first book, Bitter is the New Black, this is a continuation of Jen's biting (but hysterical)sarcasm, funny footnotes, and ridiculous stories she seems to encounter constantly in the city. I love all books by this author as her writing is perfect for fun, summer reading. I would suggest that you read Bitter first though, as she refers to some really great stories from it in Bright Lights, Big Ass.

This book is great. I Love Jen Lancaster. I've read two of her three books and I'm starting the third.

Jen Lancaster's tactless but honest approach to everything is a riot. I loved this book and honestly couldn't put it down. Even better than her first book.

For anyone who is not familiar with Jen Lancaster, buy Bitter is the New Black FIRST and then follow up with Bright Lights, Big Ass. She is comedy at its finest! I even caught my husband sneaking a peek at the book while to see what I was giggling about - he even got a kick out of it!

Her first book was funny (Bitter is the New Black), this sequel is hilarious. You gotta love Jen, you want her to be your best friend. It is a simple read, but I found myself laughing out loud and quoting her in my daily speech.

Jen Lancaster does a spectactular follow up to her 1st book Bitter Is The New Black. She is seethingly hilarious. Get this book and you won't put it down til your done!

Jen Lancaster is the bomb!!!! I am just starting my first quarter at college, but things are winding down, so that I can finish the book. I am just hoping that the third book will be available at that time.

I read the Jen Lancaster's first book, Bitter is the New Black and couldn't wait to read the second book. I was not disappointed! It is funny and down to earth and a must read. Mind you, this is not major brain food, but a fabulous book nonetheless! Try the book, you won't regret it!

I L-O-V-E-D this book-----I have read a lot of humor books, but Jen's sarcastic wit made me laugh out loud! Not only is she funny, she is SO REAL----there are so many things to relate to. If you haven't bought this book----do yourself a favor and go get it-----everyone deserves a Jen Lancaster laugh!
