The Bridges at Toko-Ri (DVD, 2001, Checkpoint)

There weren't too many films made of U.S. Naval aviation during the Korean War. Fortunately, this one was made which set the standard for others to achieve. Brubaker (played by William Holden) became quite famous when this film came out and it was considered one of the finest jet fighter movies of its' day. The acting was fairly good and there were only a few concessions to Hollywood. Definately a must see film. While this is definately an older film, "The Bridges at Toko-Ri" was reformatted for this North American DVD in 2001. My reviews are written with no knowledge as to who the potential seller may be.

Kelly is in top form as his wife. Mickey Rooney's Character is totally believable in a war movie without the typical hollywood ending. One of the best war films made from a fabulous James Mitchener novel!

This is an excellent Korean War story about a pilot who was recalled to active duty leaving his law practice, wife and two kids. It was filmed on the carrier Orisnany which is was sunk last year off Pensacola, FL as an artificial reef. It is a poignant example of the sacrifices made by our servicemen in a long ago forgot about war but which is reoccurring today at an alarming rate. A stellar cast in a wonderful film

When I started looking for this movie....blockbuster did not have it in stock when I needed so I checked e-bay and it was available and was at a better price also. So I decided to order it for a Christmas present for my husband's boss.

With so little movies covering the Korean war this one really stands out. We see firsthand how sorties were flown off of early carriers deploying first generation jet aircraft and what some pilots had to put up with as they struggled to uphold our way of life. Two of the great all time stars with William Holden and Grace Kelly really make this movie POP! and show how families of our service men and women had to put up with long periods of seperation. All in all a real gem of screen filmdom that will stand the trials of time.

I have watched this on television but with adverts in it you loose the thread. I would put this on a par with The Hunters starring Robert Mitchum and pork Chop Hill with Gregory Peck.
