The book does a good job describing the immigrant experiance and the tension between first generation and their dreams for their children in America.

  Takes my Breath Away

I bought this book for my best friend, who celebrated her first Mother's Day. I absolutely adore Edwidge Danticat's novels. Breath, Eyes, Memory is, by far, my favorite. I met Danticat last week at a book signing held at the Haitian Heritage Museum in Miami, Florida. I was truly beside myself with glee. Danticat is a genius. This novel is a must read, especially for women of Caribbean heritage.

this book is touching, and she tells this so-called tradition passed from generation to generation in her family is so unbelivable, yet so shocking and hard to image that a mother would do that to their daughters. it's an awesome book, which not just tells the history of her family, but also tells the readers how her mother and she deals with their life as an immigrant from Haiti.
