Bram Stoker's Dracula (DVD, 1997, Dubbed French; Subtitled Korean and Spanish)

I'm not sure what it is about this movie but I find myself drawn to it. I had it on video casette but the quality just isn't there and the freedom to zip to a place if I feel the need is there. DVD gives that sound and video quality that makes it possible to enjoy this movie to its fullest.
After seeing this movie in the theater in 1992 or 93, I was so captivated by the mood that it set. The transitions are hypnotic. The sets are all created in a studio before CG really took hold on movies. Gary Oldman is incredible and the rest of the cast does a fine job. It moves from start to finish and there really isn't a part that bores me.

This is THE screen version of Dracula that everyone should see because it is the one closest to the original written version. Stunning performances are given, especially by Oscar winner Gary Oldham and a quirky if not strange portrayal of VanHelsing by Anthony Hopkins. Though Kennue Reeves drops his accent occansionally, he also plays an interesting part. There are some graffic sexual scences and of course some bloddy ones, so please use some discreation when others are viewing! I hope that you buy it and like it as much as I have. I have seen it several times, but now I can see it whenever I want to and enjoy it all the more!

Anyone that is a huge fan of the 1992 version of Bram Stoker's Dracula will love this collectors edition DVD. The movie is of course fabulous. The second DVD has loads of extras including "Making of the film", past and present interviews with the stars. There is a great documentary on the visual effects as well! Lots of deleted scenes (love those) and an ALTERNATIVE ENDING! Definately a great addition to any Dracula collection!

Let's look at this film's high and low points. First of all, if you're looking for a movie rendition of Bram Stoker's novel, this isn't quite it. I honestly don't know why they threw his name into the title. It's close, but not quite faithful to the book. Gary Oldman is in fine form here, making a memorable Dracula with his emotional performance. Keanu Reeves on the other hand still hasn't lost his baffled 'Bill and Ted' expression and makes any scene he appears in about as believable as his fake accent. The sets, and lighting especially, look more like stages than reality, but I'm sure that Coppola was shooting for that anyway. The only bad set would be the exterior views of Dracula's castle, which for some reason looks more like an abandoned factory than a castle. The effects are great, especially for the time, and the movie preserves and expands on the novels eroticism. Lucy's transition from coquettish young woman into a very sensual nosferatu is captivating. However, her beau, Cary Elwes, is nearly as laughable as he was in Robin Hood: Men in Tights. The real shame as far as this movie is concerned would have to be the character of Van Helsing. In the book, he is the protagonist, the kind old man staring down evil. In the movie, he is nearly contemptible. He says crude things merely to shock the girls (which is completely out of character), humps one man's leg, and all in all, you will find yourself rooting against him instead of for him. I was completely disappointed by this departure from the novel. Though Van Helsing's character her is an utter diaster, Renfield is played quite admirably by musician Tom Waits. Overall, any horror fan should see this film. If you like the artsy aspect of a stage show and aren't put off by a few terrible choices in casting, you should love it.

I first saw this movie in the theater... it was absolutely dynamic... creepy and visually stunning. The dvd is good, but view with a big screen tv... this is one of those movies like Wizard of Oz or Labyrinth, or Willow that are so much more powerful on the big screen. MR

Very entertaining film. It doesn't follow the book exactly, but then again what film does? This movie is true to the great book in enough ways to legitimize it. It's nice that they did show Dracula as a patriotic hero to his people, which happens to be very true of the real person Stoker based his Dracula character on. Winona Ryder is gorgeous in this film. It's almost worth the price of admission just to see her. Overall it's pretty entertaining and is well-made.

I fell in love with this movie the very first time I saw it,it is a classic love story. The main theme is how Dracula came about, the movie sorts through myth and fact,and tells of a beautiful love story.How this man turned to beast because the love of his life is killed while he is off fighting for his faith (church).He comes back to find his love (wife),has killed herself upon hearing news of her husbands death. The church refuses to give her absolution to enter into Heaven, since she took her life They tell him she is damned.He becames so enraged he renounces his faith and becomes a monster the church fears.He swears to avenge his loves death, "with all the powers of darkness".He loves this woman so much that his love survives his transformation into a vampire and through centuries of time, to find her and make her his again. The Count and Mina,(Dracula's beloved) has a brief peaceful interlude before fate steps in again.But this love story has yet another cruel twist of fate. The people surrounding his love is set on killing him.They use her as bait to get to him.At his home in Transylvania, the hunters find him and fatally wound him and his beloved has to finish him off,but in doing so she releases them both from the powers of darkness.

I just happen to love vampire movies and enjoy Depp also. The combo is devine!! This movie has just the right amount of blood and gore. A movie to snuggle to.
If you like stories on vampire and not a lot of side plots this is a movie for you.

I buy for my husband because he likes a lot this movie. He ask me about it and I decide to buy in internet. I recomend this movie because is not a chick flick and the mans like it.And the womens too. Is really good movie!

I bought the Bram Stoker's Dracula DVD just before Hallowen because I'm a horror movie fan and wanted it for my collection. The DVD was in excellent condition and the DVD case was just like new and included the same movie cover used in the stores. I'm very pleased with the quality and price of my purchase.

This is definitely a movie that should be in everyone collection. A great movie with a wonderful cast.

This movie is one of my favorites of all time. Gary Oldman rocked as Dracula in all forms but as the young Vlad, he stole my heart. This is one of his best roles ever and I have seen all of his movies. In one line that he speaks to Mina, "I have crossed oceans of time to find you" is one of my favorite movie quotes ever.

I bought it because I am collecting every vampire movie every created, no matter how old or sappy. That and I've seen dracula: dead and loving it, so I wanted to see the movie it was mocking. I was very glad I bought this though, the acting was very good for that time period, and I was very moved by Dracula's love story.

Great cinematography and visual effects. The subtle comic relief executed by Anthony Hopkins as Professor Van Helsing is welcomed in this rather dark version of Dracula.

Keanu Reeves - what can I say that you don't already know - the guy can't act his way out of a hat. In his defense, Jonathan Harker (played by Reeves) isn't the most intelligent guy in the story. Do we call that good casting?

All other performances are relatively solid considering how dramatic the actors play their roles.

I chose to purchase this movie because I have not seen it in almost ten years. I look forward to the arrival of this DVD!

I watched this movie for the first time when i was about 7 and loved it. I am now 18, and had forgotten that I LOVED this movie. so, I found it on ebay and bought it. Looking forward for it to get here so I can watch it 11 years later! =)
