Synopsis Feeling alienated from everyone around her, Los Angeles high school senior and cinephile Victoria Jurgen hides behind the identity of a favorite movie character until an interesting new boy arrives at school and helps her realize that there is more to life than just the movies.
Victoria has eradicated her own looks in favor of mimicking those of Egg, the star in her number one sci-fi film. Always in white, with only tinted eyebrows to contrast with her bald head, she stands unmistakably apart from everyone else at her high school. Immersed in studies, photography, and the Science Fiction and Fantasy club, Egg has no interest in friends or love. Seemingly happy with this self-contained state, she is somewhat unraveled when Max, a funny, interesting, and cool boy takes a shine to her. What might happen if she allows him to get close?

"[A] geek-chic fairy tale...Egg's stripped-down, laser-like observations are funny, moving, and at time poetic, creating a fresh voice that will be immediately appealing to readers." Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (02/01/2005)
