Boundaries With Kids by Henry Cloud, John Sims Townsend, Lisa Guest (1998, Hardcover)

These is a wonderful tool for any adult who deals with children. This book has helped me see clearly that as a parent I must be vigilant in raising my children in a realistic atmosphere at home so that they are not spoiled within the home then shocked when they have to go into the real world. I really like the simplistic way that this book guides a parent into not just being a parent, but developing a "relationship" with your child. I'm not talking about being your child's friend. However, it is important that we as parents have a relationship with our children whereas they feel at ease of sharing their heart and not feeling like they are condemned. This book does an excellent job at teaching parents the necessity of allowing our children to learn how to take responsibility for their own actions and how to teach our kids respect by giving it. Too often, parents take on the attitude that they rule and kids don't deserve respect. Everything we want for our children must be taught by us, otherwise, we leave them to learn from some outside source that may not be the best. If you're interested in this book, gird up. It's going to require even the parent to change.

This is by far the best and most useful parenting book I have read to date. The authors use great examples that really drives points home and make you really want to be a better parent. I also "saw" mistakes my parents made and realized why some of my siblings didn't turn out so well. It was a very eye opening book that made me really examine myself and what I needed to change in myself if I don't want to make those same mistakes. An excellent book that should be on every parents bookshelf!!

I have a 15 year old. This book has helped me set boundaries with my teenager. I am a single parent. It gave parent child examples throughout the book from small children to teen and beyond teen. Great Christian book. Another great book is "Who's in Charge Here?" Author, Barnes.

I had previsl read BOUNDARIES by the same authors and loved it. Decided to see if their advice for children was as good! Great book, with a Christian emphasis. Many many good ideas to try with children. I plan to give to my daughter to read because she has children.

I got this book from my friend to read it, BUT I LOVE IT SO I BOUGHT it for myself, so I can highlight things and have more use out of it!!!!

This man writes with common sense, workable methods and realistic goals. Our society is missing it and needs more help like Cloud and Townsend offer. I think that schools, daycare centers and community youth centers should implement this.

I work with women who are in danger of losing their children to the state. I teach parents skills to them. This book is helpful in explaining boundaries and why we need them.

My sister's first child was tough to handle, to say the least. She was given this book by a friend and within a week, her son turned into the most lovable, polite, content child I have ever seen. He is 10 years old now, and this legacy of boundaries has continued to serve him and his two younger sisters well. Everyone who meets these children comments on their behavior and smiles. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

I bought this book for my best friend, who is expecting her first child. I am sure it will serve her just as well as it did my sister.
