THERE IS REALLY NOT MUCH in the way of championships that having always been a Red Sox fan as a whole, we fans have never really had anything to cheer about before the 2004 Red Sox team.
BUT as far as any team being from the New England area, the Red Sox have always been the favorite team for the fans to love and to cheer for..... (over the Celtics, Bruins and most recently even the Patriots) OR go away with a broken heart when it came time for winning the BIG championship:The Sox won AL championships in 1946, 1967 and 1975, but ended in failure! Thats the kind of team the Red Sox were, the "CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR, THERES ALWAYS NEXT YEAR" kinda team.
The 1978 Red Sox team won 99 games and blew a 10 game lead in August that year and lost to the NY Yankees in a one game play off for the eastern divisional pennant.
However, it was the 1986 Red Sox Team that really killed everyone. Having a two run lead and one strike away from winning it all... that RED SOX team at the time, had gained title as "the biggest CHOKE in sports history," and yet that ball going through Bill Buckners legs showed 80 years of Red Sox miseries.... maybe so, but it does show a series that should have been won and instead went on and lost game 6 in 1986 and the World Series, as it's always been for RED SOX Fans history!
18 years later the 2004 team looked as well as to becoming the way of the so- called "CURSE of the BAMBINO" teams from Red Sox PAST after also being down
0-3 to the much hated Yankees in the ALCS.
THEN the RED SOX pulled off the greatest comebacks in sports history. Rallying from behind in the greatest ALCS thrillers after being down 0-3 in the ALCS and of all teams to do it against: the series wins came versus the much hated NY YANKEES.

Classic Red Sox action throughout the first three disks - a 5-star rendition of the history of the RS Nation. What appears to follow is historical but a complete waste of my time. I was was bored with the 4th disk & beyond that I opted for Jimmy Fallon's 'Fever Pitch' movie (on VHS nonetheless) to get somewhat amused. Ironically, there is a 2005 disk set for another losing tradition from ChiTown that pulled their 1st since the 1910s. At this point in one's life - you have to question if it's global warming or an act to wipe slates clean in the American pastime. Prediction? Cubs!?! champs in 2007 in 6 over the Yankees (without N.Y., ratings would suffer and possibly be topped by a cooking show on say, how to "Build a Better Burger").

Of course one must ask why let a Yankees fan submit a review on one of the finest Octobers in years (say like 86 of them)? First, because I purchased it and second, It's about time. I'm happy to see the outpouring of love for the BoSox - Heaven knows they'll need it to make again in my lifetime. Editor's Note at Midnight on 10 June 2007: The Red Sox currently have a 9 1/2 game lead on the Yankees. I saw the initial Boston Massacre as a 14 year old in '78 and was fortunate enough to see 2 of the 5 (Massacre Part II) games while deployed to the Middle East in support of America's interests last August. Seems a bit early for the trilogy but after all "Massacre & Meltdown Part III" could be a HUGE hit on the DVD racks.
