Album Notes En Vogue: Cindy Herron, Maxine Jones, Dawn Robinson, Terry Ellis (vocals). When hip-hop/R&B quartet En Vogue appeared on the scene in 1990 with BORN TO SING, it was clear that they were a force to be reckoned with. Carefully assembled by producers Thomas McElroy and Denzil Foster, En Vogue blended girl-group sass with soul, funk, pop smarts, and a sophisticated sense of style and edge. The harmonies of the three vocalists gave a cool, glossy edge to all their material, and that key element--along with the other hallmarks of their style--is clearly apparent on this fine debut. A number of singles from the album hit the pop and R&B charts, including the smoothly grooving "Hold On" and the vocal-rotating "Lies," both of which made it to the pop charts, while "Don't Go" and "You Don't Have to Worry" were R&B hits. En Vogue would ratchet up their popularity even more with their follow-up FUNKY DIVAS, but BORN TO SING was a strong opening salvo from one of the most successful girl groups of the '90s. Reviews  born to sing these ladies know the meaning of harmony. i will finally get to see them live in nyc on august 23rd. i am so looking forward to it. i only saw them once many years ago when they opened for luther vandross. they have more material now and i am eager to see their full length show. i have all their cds. if you saw them on 6/24 with swv, tlc and alica keys on the bet awards, you know they can still blow! I bought this CD cause it was hard for me to find this particular CD anywhere else and I believe this was the best CD they ever made. When I won the auction I was thrilled. When I got my CD, I was beyond joyous. I was initally skeptical of the product looking at a worn CD case with a discolored enclosure. However the CD was in excellent condition and played wonderfully.
