Born Into Brothels (DVD, 2005)

after hearing at church about the lives of brothel children in the red light district of calcutta, my heart was broken and i had to learn more. i did some research and found this documentary....it is wonderful, but heartbreaking, and makes me want to go help these children somehow. they have so much potential and so little hope. it reminded me to be thankful for all i have and to look for opportunities to share with those who have nothing....something we know very little about in this country.

While it seemed to be well put together, and the woman did everything in her power to get these kids out of their unfortunate situations - if you are looking for a happy ending, this is not the right movie to watch. I was very disappointed with the end of the film, and my heart broke for the children.

An emotional roller coaster if you have the guts to let it take you. If you're not willing to do that, you shouldn't waste your time watching it.

There is a reason this movie won so many awards. Educational and Entertaining. Must See!
This dvd is both disturbing, informative and heartfelt. Winner over 30 major awards including Sundance, National Best Documentary by Film Critics (LA) and National Board of Review. Won the Academy Award for Best Documentary.

Difficult subject well treated that give us hope and belief that one person can change a lot!

Very touching movie!

The subject matter is fascinating and the characters moving - however this movie just didn't hit the right chord. I don't feel I learned much, or understand anything more than if I didn't watch it. I really wanted to like it and it has other excellent reviews, but I found it lacking!

I recieved this DVD very shortly after I ordered it. It was in very good condition and was what I expected.

This is the most inspiring film. It gives those of us who are educators proof that the idea that art transforms lives is not just a lofty concept--- it was demonstrated with clarity in this film. Very highly recommended.

What I liked about movie is I ended up feeling hope for the kids that grew up in a life with nothing to really look forward to until they met their new friend/teacher.

One more rare human being who is doing something worthwhile with her life and setting an example for the rest of us. With just a little effort and work she was able to life these children spirits and even set them on the road to a life free of the abusive world they were born into. This film is amazing on many levels. The children are so beautiful and inspiring. Their talent, and their photographs will surprise you (they are for sale on the web). This film stayed with me for a long time. I saw it at a festival 3 years ago, now I've taken the opportunity to own it. It does not have a happy ending, so be prepared...but it is so worth the time.
