Born on a Blue Day

I had recently listened to this book on tape, having borrowed it from the library. I did this on the recommendation of a friend, who knows that I have a nonverbal autistic daughter. I was thoroughly intrigued by Daniel's narrative, and saw many areas that seemed to match my daughter's behaviors. I knew I had to have a hard copy of the book to make notes, and to share the book with teachers. Currently one of her teachers is reading the book, and her speech therapist just finished it.
I learned much from this book about the whys of some of my daughter's behaviors, and why numbers, calendars, shapes and colors seem to hold such a fascination for her. I'm more aware of her moods and how they may be linked to some of those things.
I'm very grateful for Daniel and his ability to express his emotions (or lack thereof), and the reasons for his compulsory behavior. I'm also grateful to know that he has been able to go so far in life, perhaps not only in spite of, but also because of his differences. I was also impressed that he has been able to accomplish so much because of the support system that he has in place.
