Borderlands has 2 big things going for it from the start. First, it's a new IP, which is an automatic win. How many new IPs are coming out this year? Barely any, and Borderlands brings us something new and fresh. Second is the art style. At first, I didn't think the team could pull it off in such a vast world. Guess who was wrong? Even though they seem stupid, I wouldn't take these graphics any other way. The graphics really flex the muscles of the 360, and it makes sure Borderlands isn't like Fallout 3.

Now to the meat of the game. Let's start with the guns. At this moment, Gearbox has 17.5 million+ weapons confirmed for the game, which is probably where they stopped. This is a monumentous amount!!!!! It would take you 20 years earning a gun every minute to come even close to attaining all of them. And we aren't even counting items!!!! The gun count really adds to Borderlands' awesomeness.

Next, we got multiplayer. How many RPGs can you play 4-player co-op online? How about split screen? SPLIT SCREEN!!!! This is an excellent move from Gearbox, plus your character can still progress in your friend's game. This is a really huge selling point for Borderlands.

As for the actual gameplay? Excellent. There is a little bit of grinding at the beginning, but it doesn't really detract from the gameplay experience. The shooting is fast and enjoyable. The enemies are varied and you will want to shoot them. There also is AI hiccups, but it's unavoidable considering the size and balance of the game.

Overall, if you like video games, you gotta buy this one. If your a stay-at-home mom, I can understand you not being interested. But even if you want to throw fire and holy water at Borderlands because you dislike it with every part of your being..... buy it anyways. It's that good.

Although difficult to get used to in the beginning, this is actually a pretty amazing game. The first person shooter aspect lives up to some of the more popular titles, and the strategy game aspects are an excellent addition. What they sacrifice with enemy AI they make up for in skill against skill based combat.

The overall animation is good, sing an "outline" style that tends to give games sharp detail even though it less real. Makes the player feel like they are in a comic book.

  "Borderlands" for Xbox 360

This game is one of a kind. The things that got my attention to this game was its graphics. The graphics are animated and are very surreal. The game brings together RPG and FPS elements together to create a magnificent game. The only thing I do not like it the online co-op. You follow one person's missions, and there's no happy medium. Overall an excellent game and I would recommend it to anyone who loves FPS with lots and lots of guns!

This game is no good if you play it by yourself. Multiplayer is a must for full enjoyment. You could play this game 1000 times and you'll still find unique weapons thanks to the diablo 2 style weapon generation within the game.

  Borderlands Will Rock Your Socks
Review created: 12/02/09

I have played and beaten this game 3 times, I enjoy every dynamic involved with its play system. There are over "16 million" different weapons, Its a huge! world lots of different area's with customizable vehicles and clothes. The only negatives i can draw from this game is the fact that its so glitchy, and by that i mean every so often youll get stuck in between a rock or in a wall or something similar. and there are a few times that events won't trigger and youll have to exit the game and enter in order to kick them back into gear.

All in all with the few negatives and the overwhelming positives, you don't mind any of the little problems with it. its so fun with its two player co-op split screen and 4 player coop online, youll never want to put it down!

Slam Dunk Action Packed Game - Little Depth - Renter
Review created: 12/02/09
by:

Borderlands as gone for a obscure and some would say sticky middle road, not a deep emersive role playing game nor a adrenaline filled shooter. Many have praised it for taking this path, many have laughed at what they believe to be a ridiculous concept.

Music:

First of the games theme music is flattering not only to the art style but also the game play, words like "aint know rest for the wicked" jingle in my head each time I unload a clip to remove yet another poor being from obstructing my chosen path.

Art:

Now 2k Games made a big deal about this, they advertised alot of footage to show off there new style game. I however do feel they were just trying to hit another reason why this game is different from the others. Its graphics feel dated and the art style seems to be a cover up for lazy details. That said, it grows on you. By the time you finish your first 4 hour session you will have completely forgotten that its any differently graphically to any other game you've played.

Gameplay:

This is the core, the heart, the soul of Borderlands. Things like experience popping up on the screen after a kill (much like COD multiplayer) keep you looking for kills, bold read letters of "Critical Hit!" keep you aiming for the head and the "87 Bazillion guns" keep you looting the bodies that drop. For those of you who love leveling up characters, this will keep you entertained... for a while. But thats all part of my final section.

The Moan:

RPG... Now it's a regularly used term and there are many titles that cling onto the 3 sacred letters to try and project an image of real depth and days of exploring. Borderlands unfortunately does not have real depth.

There is no great area that will take you more than a couple of hours to explore, there are no great choices that will spin the game. And to be completely honest there is no significant story, you get no details on a history behind the character you have chosen and there is little detail given to why some people help you to your goals and why your even so eager to get to the conclusion of the story. And unfortunately you shouldn't hurry to there end. Its very disappointing!

Conclusion:

With creating a game completely different in a time surrounded by well founded sequels (Left 4 Dead 2, Assassins Creed 2, Modern warfare 2) there is always going to be people who ignore it, people who hate it and people who class it as a hidden gem.

I can safely declare myself in the latter crowd cheering on the mighty folk at 2k Games. They have put a new franchise out and have already declared that there will be more. I personally can't wait.

Simply put:

This game is a great piece of co-op fun.

  nothing new, nothing really novel
Review created: 11/30/09

I bought this game expecting a fallout 3 type experience with multiplayer features. Instead I got a sub-par 1st person shooter. Borderlands doesn't really do alot wrong, but they don't really do anything new or exciting. There are various fallout and Halo clones roaming all over the map. The game is not open ended, and it feels rather redundant. Also there are tiny things like local split screens that you cannot change. Something that left 4 dead 2 and one have included. My personal experience is that you should spend your money on a better 1st person shooter like halo odst or left 4 dead, if your in the mood for a RPG get fallout 3.

Borderlands is just too expensive with too little quality to actually be worth it.

  Borderlands- 95/100
Review created: 11/26/09
by:

Storyline- Funny and interesting, perfectly ironic, and yet somehow at times hard to follow. The story is good and makes you want to see the end. And most of the quests fit perfectly into the story, even quite a few of the side quests, which is a pretty good thing, because a lot of games have random quests, and this has a few, but not a lot. But it does had a lot of weird ones. 17/20

Graphics - They are not perfect but they are refined they don't seem to have glitches like even the best games, for example Fallout 3 seems to get an occasional streak, but this game doesn't ever seem to have those problems. 10/10

Game play- Unique and fun this game seems to offer new things throughout most of the game, and in truth even to where I am now, on my second playthrough. The skills seem especially interesting, but not really all that incredible, really one fantastic skill per class and one not bad one per class, the rest are just meh. Sadly the classes aren't as different as they could be, since the abilites only really appear to be usefull in big battles or in boss battles at all other times your just playing the same guy 13/15

Enjoy ability- I love this game its funny and the first game I've beat and wanted to play again immediately after beating it! 20/20

Art direction- Colorful and enjoyable a very comic-esque look to it. I felt like I was a character in a moving comic. This type of art work something I haven't seen suceed so well in a game. 10/10

Sound &VA- Quite beliveable and realistic, very well done! Very often hilarious, some of the characters have lines it would have been hard to keep a straight face while saying, but its good that they did other wise we couldn’t have head them! 10/10

Length- Actually a little longer than I expected, not as long as Fallout, but longer than most other games out there, I think it took me around 36 hours to beat (compare to fallout 3s 50+ BEFORE DLCs of course I was trying to do as much as i could find) This is the first game that I started playing again immediately after I beat it, were talking I beat it, watched the credits and started run through 2 and played another hour, this game has THAT kind of replayability, and this is all after I had already played through 1/3 of the game with my brother. 15/15

Total-95/100
Bottom line- A game where the action is so great it takes away from the story! New to me but its a great buy get it when you can!

The 5-
1- Their rocket launchers don’t hurt them!? Seems as if mine hurt me but theirs don’t hurt them, could be wrong but who knows
2- Vehicles kinda suck
3- You walk way to slow so you have to sprint way to often
4- Why havent I seen a revolver more than six shorts? I've seen pretty much everything else?
5- Whats with the alien guns at the end? Their good and seem to make all my other guns obsolete, and I havent found a truly good drop since.

This is a great game! Finally, somebody latched onto the idea of doing a FPSMMO. It's extremely addicting and with 4 different classes and the "sandbox" type of maps it uses, it has unlimited replay potential!

Wow! What a game. Its like a good carnival ride. It starts out a little tough and being a first person shooter makes it tricky to hit, but once you level up a bit, it starts getting good. A lot of fun in a cartoonish kind of way. Even the character says stuff that make you laugh. I gave it a top rating. I suggest playing in HDMI.
FEEL IT!

  A must have
Review created: 11/17/09

The setting is similar to Fallout 3, being a wasteland and an Role Playing Game. The playing is similar to Halo 3, being a First person shooter. Take these to beautiful game add a little kw and some steamy love making, you end up with Borderlands. You choose from one of 4 types of characters to play the game. Each type has their own weaknesses and strengths twords weapons. Add in over a million guns and fun multiplayer and singleplayer experience, it's a no brainer; a must have. The story, not so much, but hey your really looking for the best weapons, and even after the game is beat you still continue your search. At any time you can challange a teamate to a duel, or go to do teams/everyman for himself in the arenas. If you love first person shooters this is a great game, if you love RPG's well hopefully your just a fan of the first person shooter with an RPG element.

  Borderlands, a sea of guns!
Review created: 11/15/09
0 of 1 people found this review helpful.

First off, I love guns. The look of a futuristic gun that shoots laser beams, or a shotgun that fire mini rockets puts a smile on my face like no other. With that being said, there is Borderlands to fill my plate with the need to collect an insane amount of loot and satisfy my craving for murder and death.
Borderlands is essentially a game based around a merc who goes on a treasure hunt on a remote world that once housed aliens. The graphics are beautiful (despite the dead planet) and the set locations are perfect. It reminds me of an end of the world/apocolypse type of planet. Mechanics of the game are very user friendly, the interface is simple to pickup, the inventory menu is a sinch and the combat is quite smooth.
There are some cons to the game though. For one, you can't in any way alter the look/speed/reload/strength of the weapons you find. If you really want to put that scope thats on your rifle onto your rocket launcher, your out of luck. Second, there aren't that many enemy types in the game, rather there are just different grades of the same enemy. There maybe a small type of dog, but there will be a slightly larger dog of a different color that has a meaner looking name. Driving vehicles can be a downright chore sometimes. Driving along at a good clip and you hit a small boulder and suddenly it becomes an immovable object and you stop on a dime.
With the few cons and plenty of plus's to the game, I gave it an almost perfect score. With it's gritty art style, goretastic weapons and the story lines right out of a dark comic, most younger (30 and younger) players will fall in love with Pandora and all of it's inhabitants.
