  Absolutely Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To call Borat Sagdiyev "clueless" is a grand understatement.
Sacha Baron-Cohen's fictional Kazakh journalist, Borat, is a hillbilly from a remote, busted-down Soviet-Era backwater town, making his way around the USA, with an armload of ridiculous superstitions and misinformation (and a jar of gypsy tears "for protection").
He lays out his racist, sexist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic misconceptions for anybody unfortunate enough to be bushwhacked by him., and the results are unfathomably hilarious.
Along with furry, 5'2", 300-pound producer Azamat Bagatov (Ken Davitian), they embark on a journey to find Borat's love interest, Pamela Anderson Lee (Borat's Baywatch LOVE), and find all sorts of adventures in American culture along the way.
His appearance at a rodeo in Roanoke, Virginia, doesn't end well, to say the least. Neither do his visits to a humor coach, social-etiquette experts, an antique store, an RV full of South Carolina frat boys, a suburban-Midwest yard sale, a session with former Congressman Bob Barr., and a stop in a rural ghetto housing project where he seeks lessons on "being down".
Through it all, Borat's guileless naiveté unleashes on 100% unsuspecting victims who never realized their run-ins with "Borat" were staged for a movie. Therein, lies the pulsing heart of the true genius.
Cohen, as Borat, is passing himself off as a Russian Immigrant trying to learn American Culture., and is catching people's reactions, uncomfortable patience, or lack thereof on film. Real people who weren't prepared or asked. (This also has resulted in over 200 lawsuits filed against Cohen from many people who now realize they were duped, and also spurned over 100 calls to local Police Departments across the USA., from people offended by "Borat" in real life - this is supplied in the "Special Features" on the DVD. Even when the Police repeatedly arrive., ciy-after-city, state-after-state., Cohen never leaves character., and therein captures the Police's candid handlings hilariously too !!).
Borat goes on in the film., pursuing California to marry "PAH-Mella" (Pamela Anderson)., stopping to ask a gun dealer about "the best gun to shoot a Jew", debating with poker-faced feminists about the size of women's brains, ("like squirrel"), asking his driving instructor if he can "Make Sexy-Time" with a woman in a nearby car. And then there's a candid - RAW - naked fight between Borat and Azamat., in reality camera-action-style through a luxurious hotel lobby and Corporate Conference Hall packed with unsuspecting executives !!
Hell, he's funny enough even when he's not saying anything, with his gangly, clumsy body language, ill-fitting suit (which was reportedly not ever cleaned during the making of the movie), bushy moustache, and toothy grin.
Borat tracks down Pamela Anderson at a Califonia autograph-signing., where even she hasn't been informed of the dupe. Borat asks her to marry him, to which she refuses, (awkwardly looking for Security to remove him)., and he attacks her. Trying to bag her into a potato-like sack.
Result: a subsequent real-life melee., leaving Pam Anderson running through parking lot to flee and Police arresting "Borat". (Later, let in on the gag that "It's Just A Movie Stunt", Cohen was released and Pam Anderson even enjoyed the laugh.)
The fact that this film was immediately banned in the actual country of Kazakhstan almost right away., fuels the hilarity flame even more.
"BORAT" = 5 Stars !! Cohen = GENIUS

Borat

Borat is a genious creation from the brilliant Sascha Baron Cohen. This movie is full of rude, crude humour, foul language, ignorant behaviour, innapropriate scenes and tons of male nudity. If any of these things offend you turn away now... or pull your head out and enjoy this movie for what it is... hilarious.

Although there were a couple scenes even I had trouble watching this movie is almost 100% hilarious the whole time, there are certain scenes that will have you laughing for many minutes... VERY NICE.

Final Verdict:

4/5

Worth buying?: Heck yes... you buy for fun laughy time with friends VERY NICE

BORAT IS FUNNY FOR THE INTELLIGENT

Borat is the first comedy in a long time with the balls to go where most movies wouldn't dare. Sacha Baron Cohen shows us the real America through the experiences of a foreign visitor (played by Cohen - a Jewish American in disguise). It's a hilariously, eye-opening look at how racist and ignorant most of the country still is. Borat attempts to purchase a gun and asks the shop owner which gun is best for shooting Jews? The shop owner doesn't even blink at this comment and proceeds to show him a handgun! We meet college students that tell him how the country should still have slavery! The hits just keep on coming. It's not a total morality lesson, in fact it's mostly comedy. The naked wrestling scene is almost unwatchable and hilarious at the same time, while Borat's whole objective of meeting Pamela Anderson is just as funny! If you didn't know it was all an act going in, Cohen presents a very believable character in unbelivable situations! Just make sure you watch it with an open mind as it was meant to be viewed. An IQ above 100 also helps. Very nice!

Very, Very offensive. I do have to admit that it was funny in some parts, but was overall very displeased. What this british comedian pulled off is pretty amazing. The content of this movie, especially the amount of nudity and disgusting images was too much.

I am a fan of Borat...back from the Ali Gee days. But, this compilation of Borat experiences is a little too much. It comes off as being more scripted than previous Borat skits. Don't get me wrong...the movie is funny for Borat fans, but for non-Borat fans, it is too long. My wife fell asleep.

Offensive, yet very funny! If you are offeneded by male nudity, strange sexual situations, or anything else for that matter you will be somewhat offended by this movie. I was offened by some of the content of this movie but that is some of Borats appeal. To be offensive and ignorant of American culture. Nasty, funny, over the topthis is a laugh out loud satire of American culture and pokes fun at almost every group that makes up that culture.

My goodness, this movie was simply gut busting. I could not stop laughing. Although Borat is a bit difficult to understand sometimes, he simply reigns hilarious. Not only does his character make fun of his own "countrymen" but he shows a side of humor few see in America. This movie is one we'll all be quoting for years to Come! I give it a 5/5 however you might want to watch it twice to catch all of his hilarious phrases.

Finally Viewed This.... and Liked It!

We watched this knowing that what it was about. Tina had seen this at the San Diego Comic Con special program where Borat crawled up the stage and presented two scenes. So she was prepared.

I had seen the trailers promoting the show but nothing else.

Not for family viewing, but is ok for adults that can take this mockumentary in stride.

Definitely a rental, but worth seeing once!

This was the WORST movie I have ever had to sit through!!! It was very offensive. I am stunned, I was lead on to believe it was a great and funny movie. In actuality there is full frontal nudity, very bad language, and sexual situations, that I still cant believe. WOULD NOT BUY, AND WON'T WATCH EVER AGAIN!!!

Fantastic, Funny. A Must See 5 Star
Review created: 04/26/07
4 of 11 people found this review helpful.

Master of disguise Sacha Baron Cohen hits the road to explore America as the crude Kazakstani reporter Borat in a feature mockumentary that brings one of the Da Ali G Show star's most popular characters to life on the big screen. Sent by the Kazakh Ministry of Information to gain a better understanding of American culture and bring his findings back home, Borat and faithful producer Azamat (Ken Davitian) set their sights in New York City. When the citizens and interview subjects of the Big Apple seem less than receptive to Borat's distinctively unrestrained approach and the curious Kazakh television personality stumbles across an episode of Baywatch while channel-surfing in his hotel room, he becomes instantly smitten with screen siren Pamela Anderson. Now confident that the only way to discover the true essence of America is to travel to California and make the bikini-clad beauty his bride, Borat purchases a ramshackle ice-cream truck in which he and Azamat will make their way across the Great Plains and on to the sunny West Coast -- all the while coming into contact with a wide variety of "typical" Americans. Within this loose, scripted framework, Borat engages in his usual misbehavior with unsuspecting strangers, from accidentally releasing a chicken from his suitcase on a New York subway ride to a formal interview with Alan Keyes. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

  Laugh...but not too much.

Quite often a movies success is dictated by the era it was released. This movie is no exception. I'm currently on the fence with Borat. On one hand it has it's genius moments and really does get you laughing. On the other, I realized that this movie is completely making fun of me and my country, the USA. And right now, in a post 9/11 world my sense of humor is wearing thin on the subject. Seems that everyone is getting their kicks in while a country is down, even by some of our own ungreatful citizens. Had this movie come out before 9/11 I'd be able to laugh without a second thought. But it bothers me that the whole film was edited to make Americans look like nothing more than uptight blue bloods, ignorant rednecks and criminal minorities. Not once did it ever show a good side. But it doesn't take an over paid movie critic to figure out that's exactly what they're going for.

Oddly enough I didn't hate this movie. I should, but I don't. As much as I didn't care for the subject matter, it was still funny. I'm actually more surprised that people were just upset by the nudity. The Borat character was very likable. I can't get enough of his silly catch phrases. But deep down, behind the laughter I'm really sad...because this is how other countries really see America. We're the bad guys until someone needs our help. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit

Borat is an incredibly funny movie. It's one of those movies you just have to own. This movie truly mocks the American culture, pointing out the funny culture America has grown to develope. This movie makes you want to laugh in a gross way. There is no other reaction you could have. Some of the scenes are unbelievable. I cannot believe somone could be like this. I would love to tell you all of the things that make this movie great, but that would spoil the movie for you.

Yes it is crude, but hilarious, biting, satirical . . .
Review created: 03/25/07
4 of 8 people found this review helpful.

Though Borat uses some over-the-top scenes to envoke gut-wrenching laughter, the movie sharply points out the overt racism inherent in our culture. The movie was banned from some "conservative" parts of the country, perhaps due to the crude sexual references used in the film but something larger looms in the message of censorship. Many of those guilty of staunch racism are afraid to face their own reality. Borat the character is undeniably racist, homophobic, and sexist, yet he proclaims he is none of those, that he behavior is part of his cultural "norm." Perhaps we can say the same thing about those in this country who fear those who have different (or no) religion or have differing beliefs.

This film is a classic, although perhaps a little "too much" for the younger crowd. To really "get" the point of the movie, critical thinking skills are a must. I would suggest that it is suitable for those 16 and up.

This movie was not as good or as great as everyone would like you to believe. It had some very dry humor in it and lets be real about this. We dont like the gay humor. I was totally turned off when I seen this. Borat is not a movie to watch...I watched it one night, returned it the next.

It was even worse than Dumb and Dumber...that was another stupid movie. I cant wait to recieve Rocky Balboa in the mail.

7 Thumbs Down

There is report government Kazakh is not happy with Borat moviefilm because is offends. But Borat moviefilm is not embarrass Kazakhstan -- is embarrass US and A! Reason Borat is only character, but all American in movie film is real, not act. I laugh my heads off while watch Borat make cultural learnings of US and A, almost make urine explosion. You watch, you laugh too! You like!

This movie was one of the first with guts and what a shocker it was, I couldn’t believe some of the things "Borat" did and if you have seen this then you know what I mean by the bed part with his producer.
I wouldn’t recommend this as a family film but for adults who have a sense of humor this is a really funny movie and would be even funnier if you watched it with a group of friends. I rented this movie like I always do before I know I want to buy it and when I watched it the next day I went out and bought it New not at ebay prices cause I wanted it so bad, I cant stop watching it and even talking like him as a joke with my friends.
"I love the US of the A,” says Borat. I can’t wait for the actor’s next movie, which is going to be even funnier by what the reviews say.
A++++++ to Borat!

It's irreverent, tasteless, offensive, crass, gross, and oh so funny! No stereotype is outside the bounds of Cohen's comic poking. If one didn't already know he was Jewish himself, the mouthpiece of Borat as premier anti-semite might be a complete turn-off. The fight in the hotel with his traveling buddy is hilarious beyond words. I laughed so hard I cried.

Borat is by far the funniest movie I have ever seen in my life! I am not good at reviewing movies but I'm going to review this anyway.

The movie may offend some people because it deals with race, culture, nudity, homosexuality, incest, racism, sex...I can go on and on. This movie does not hold anything back. The movie brings to light how simple minded some American citizens are.

I WOULD NOT recommend this movie to ANYONE under the age of 18!!!

As I said, I kept hearing about this movie all over the television, magazines, ect. I decided that I had better see the movie to see what was so special about it.... To be bluntly honest, I still don't know. I love a good comedy and can even laugh at the expense of others at times during movies. But this movies was over the top and at times, just plain crude.
As for the pros to this movie, I could not find a one.
As for the cons: The movie makes fun of unsuspecting real-life people and it appears the only one who thinks it's amusing, is the main character, Borat. Movie is shallow, thoughtless, and dry.
Recommendations: Don't waste your time or money to buy or rent this movie.
