I am a current student of the Andrews School for medical transcription. This book is included with the many reference books they provide with the course.

This book is THE book to reference for style. I especially like that it has 3-inch-wide margins and lots of white space which makes it easy on the eyes. The book has a type font that is easy to read for lengthy time periods. There are many, many useful tips in the margins that help you remember key points.

This book covers formatting style, grammar issues, and has 10 appendices. Of most importance is its "Dangerous Abbreviations and Dose Designations" appendix. Here is where they list The Institute for Safe Medication Practices' (ISMP)listing of abbreviations and dose designations that are dangerous to patient safety. Of particular value for students are the appendices that include "Sample Reports," and "Soundalikes."

This is an absolute "must-have" for any medical transcriptionist. As with all references utilized by medical transcriptionists, working or students, up-to-date references are of the utmost importance. Steer clear of out-of-date materials. Your job may depend upon it!

This book is essential for a medical transcriptionist. As a new graduate from Andrews School of medical transcription and looking for jobs now, I realize just how important this book is. It is the standard by which almost all employers expect. I also like the feature, which enables me to open my book and not have it close on me when I'm typing. It was designed to open flat so it won't close when you are typing. All in all I love the book.
