'BOO!' Not a bad "Old Dark House" film!

I caught parts of this film on the Sci Fi channel. it looked good enough to take a chance on, so I bought it on Ebay. It was a lot better than I even hoped for! The premise was basic fare; kids wander into an old hospital that is supposed to be haunted. Of course, it's Halloween night! Naturally, someone has gone ahead to set up some spooky effects to scare the girls, but he runs into the real spooks.
What follows is pretty much standard "Old Dark House" stuff w/ an "Exorcist" type twist. There are also 3 back stories, 1 of which really isn't explained very well, but they all tie in. The pace drags at times and some of the dialog is weak in spots but not too much to be distracting. Also, there are a couple horror movie, "why the Hell are they doing that?" logic issues & a few humorous moments to keep it light until the real scary stuff starts happening.
Once the reason for the Haunting is explained, it picks up & makes the whole movie worth it! Lots of chills & moments that make you jump! The acting was a little blah at times & some overdone moments. The special effects are decent & realistic. Some are pretty darned cool! It's well shot, creating an atmospheric and eerie feeling not generally found in the genre today. The premise was pretty basic, but had enough plot twists to make it interesting. This is a good B horror movie & well worth owning to add to your collection! Horror movies are a crap-shoot, usually more crap than anything else. But if you're looking for something better than most, I would recommend Boo! It will make me keep an eye out for other Graveyard Filmworks productions.
