This wonderful book has 256 pages loaded with bonsai knowledge and over 800 color photographs. It will help you choose which trees & plants will grow best in your environment and shows several examples of traditional bonsai styles. The necessary tools are shown and described in detail. Advanced topics are discussed like grafting and rock planting. This is also the perfect book for the coffee table as anyone can appreciate the many amazing bonsai featured.
I have been growing bonsai for about 8 years and this book is a valuable source of ideas for new trees. It takes several other books to stack up to the amount of material in this encyclopedia and I definitely give it my recommendation with an excellent rating.

This is an excellent overview of the art of Bonsai. I bought it as a beginning Bonsai artist, to get some insight into grafting but I got sooooo much more. I find that Peter Chan covers the gammot of Bonsai, from Picking pots to pruning and parasites. Packed full of beautiful color photos, he walks you through picking good trees for bonsai and getting them potted, as well as creating the absolute best conditions for growing a healthy bonsai.
Keeping healthy and happy Bonsai is much more complicated than just watering and cutting. This book helps take some of the scariness and difficulty out of the process. Bravo Mr. Chan, ...Bravo!!!
