Album Notes Like most great film music, William Bolcom's score for ILLUMINATA evokes melodies that came before while creating an entirely new experience. Owing a great deal to the Italian operatic tradition, the score is at times larger than life, at times intimate and romantic. Through its entirety, however, Bolcom's work is playful and ingenious. Primarily led by the strings and warmed with the mellow tones of French horns, 'Illuminata' has a cozy feel. This ambience serves as a wonderful backdrop for most of the film and contrasts nicely when Bolcom decides to switch gears, such as the haunting carnival introduction to the tango, "Rendezvous - A Night of Intrigue."
