One You Shouldn't Miss
Most people remember Blur's self-titled CD for that one, 2-and-a-half minute "Woo-Hoo" song ("Song 2"), and that's about it. While it was a great "radio-friendly" song, it does not exemplify the sound of the entire album. There are plenty of hidden gems here, like the soaring opener "Beetlebum," the ragged "You're So Great," and the dark and brooding "Death of A Party." The main downside of this album is that it lacks cohesion because there are so many different sounds going on with each song. They'll go from an almost all accoustic track into something electronica-heavy, and then on to heavy punk rock/metal and even stuff that sounds like pop rock. Blur is a chameleon of a band, and in this album you can see they are trying, maybe unsuccessfully, to discover a sound for themselves. Still, individual songs themselves are quite good.
