This has to be one of my all time favorite albums...I saw Under the Bridge on MTV and was hooked!!! I bought this album and not only was I treated to this wonderful - yet sad and true - song but 16 other songs that ranged from slow melodic soulfulness, rock and funk..it basically captures the magic that is the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The Chili Peppers were not new in 1991 - but this album helped catapult their career and the band achieved more main street success!! Under the Bridge and Give it Away received prolific radio and TV play - and still do; however this album has a lot more to offer. Could have Lied is a personal favorite - a little slower ballad but strong heartfelt lyrics! The power of equality, a funky song which highlights Flea's skills on the bass. Sir Psycho sexy is a ranchy rendition, which Kiedis almost talks his was through as opposes to sing! It finished with the insane their red hot - a crazy snippet often played at earlier shows - this may be a regular track on some pressings - on my UK version it plays minutes after the main album ends as a hidden track!

Nothing but awesomenessI love this album, honestly one of my favorites. It's funk at it's best and chili peppers at their prime. Every song on this album is so unique and full of life that you can't help but feel like you're with them jamming together. If you're a chili peppers fan there's no way you can gain a moment of disappointment with this album.

I love everything about this album, the funk & The rock!
It's in my top 10 greatest/fav albums of all time list!
I didn't even know of these guys till this album...(was stuck in the long-haired men, leather & chains wearin', arena rock 80/90's rock/metal genre for years)
I bought it because, though I had it on cassette, I needed it on cd!
(might I add, I have 100's that need to be replaced by cds lol)
It's INDEED a MUST HAVE, for fanciers of rock, funk, alternative & what-have-u!
Just get it, your bound to be pleased by this 'get the body movin' & your soul a shakin' Ear Candy!

Super funkyBSSM is easily one of the Chili Peppers' funkiest albums. With such classics as "Give it Away" and "Under the Bridge" and the album's unsung heroes "Mellowship Slinky in B Major", "Breaking the Girl" and of course its title track, BSSM provides well over an hour of classic RHCP. You can't go wrong with this one and is definitely a must-have for the RHCP enthusiast or anyone seeking to add a gem to their collection.

This was the album where the Red Hots started getting serious about their craft. They were always great musicians, and they took it seriously. But this album took it to a new level, and is dripping with the spontaneous energy of their youth, while also swirling in a dab of their new maturity. A heady brew and stout elixir to be sure, with enough funk to cure what ails you.

This album was released during the early 90's when alternative music really hit a hight point. Still... this one stands out. There's nothing else I can say... if you like alternative/indie/punk/etc and don't own this album... you are nuts! Buy it!

This album and Californication are the best Chili Peppers albums to date! While later Chili Peppers albums would explore the softer side of the band, Blood Sugar Sex Magik is the pinnacle of the Chili Peppers raucous, funkadelic, rap-rock, nature. While listening to the radio hits "Give it Away" "Breaking the girl" and the monster world-wide hit "Breaking the Girl", don't forget to check out "I could have lied", arguably the best and most least known of the Chili Peppers masterpieces.
