"Blood Red" marks the first and only time thespian siblings Eric and Julia Roberts appeared on-screen together.

The idea for the film was publicized in 1976, but "Blood Red" did not get produced until 1986 and, moreover, was not put in wide release until 1990. However, Hemdale Releasing Corporation brought the film to a small number of theaters briefly in 1989.

Actress Carlin Glynn is the wife of director Peter Masterson.
