An Epic Masterpiece
This is one of my favorite books, tied only with Catch-22. That is not to say that if you are a fan of Catch-22, you'll enjoy this book also. The writing itself is very good, creating amazing imagery, albeit sometimes a bit hard to grasp because of the lack of punctuation and sprinkling of convoluted sentences. These two things only add to the atmosphere that McCarthy creates as the story progresses. The biggest selling point for this book is the character of Judge Holden. He is a majestically evil entity unrivaled in any book I've read. If you like the idea of Paradise Lost, of Satan being a character with a story, this book may be a good choice for you. I've also read McCarthy's latest book, No Country For Old Men, and while I think it is also a good read, I greatly prefer Blood Meridian. Note, many scenes in the book are incredibly violent.
