Blessed - Soweto Gospel Choir

I got this CD to replace the exact same one stolen from my vehicle; that's how much I liked it. This is my first CD of African music, but I feel drawn to the songs and instruments. (I'm 51 yrs old, Anglo-Saxon, and an atheist!) Yet this music is somehow very uplifting. This choir sings a few standards, but with an African slant and style. About half of the songs are sung in a native tongue that I don't understand - and it doesn't matter - I like them anyway :)
This is 'happy' music, and I respond to it as most people respond to Carribean music, I think. The voices are very pure, lilting and strong, and the production values are excellent. I also get a kick out of the occasional guttural overtures and exclamations that are part of African singing. I originally got this because I wanted to try something new and different; and expand my admittedly milque-toast taste in music. I wasn't dissappointed.
