I love the DVD. It brings back childhood memories! The DVD is excellent quality! the quality of the cartoons are just as I rememeber them!! Excellent production and I love the format and they way the DVDs were set up!

) BlackStar is one of Filmation's most imaginative animated series-( before He-Man, She-Ra & BraveStarr.) I used to watch it on Saturday mornings, I think. There were only 13 episodes. Voiced by George DiCenzo, who is in many Filmation creations, BlackStar is a Native American man who got lost in a black hole and wound up a freedom fighter on a strange planet. He has a neat green winged creature-friend called Warlock and is also aided by a sorceress and a shape-shifter. There are little people called "Trobbits." This is a very entertaining series with original elements not seen in other cartoons.

For the price I paid on Ebay this is unbeatable! if you do not know who or what Blackstar is go find out for yourself. the cartoon show is in the vein of He-man but predates it by only a little bit of time. Blackstar only had a short run on tv. so this is the only place to get your fix. must buy!!!!!

If you want to see where the "Masters of the Universe" animated cartoon came from this is the virtual pilot for the series, & you can trace the development from the surprisingly adult "Flash Gordon" movie (never released on video or DVD, although you can get the increasingly juvenile series spun-off from film on the latter format) through this to the toy-based franchise.
Like all of the Filmation stuff it's colourful & imaginative, & the set comes with a cool documentary on the show as well as a whole bunch of "coming attractions" which are really just the opening credits from all their various series rather than actual trailers (not that I'm complaining...).
If you enjoy "He-Man" & "She-Ra", you'll love this.

This title was pretty much what I expected. A tipical 80's cartoon the art and story where very simalar to He-Man. From what I understand this series was made by the same people who created He-Man and was canceled shortly before He-Man came out. All in all it was OK, not great.

Blackstar is still awesomeI watched these as a child and had the action figures...yes this is pre He-man. Alas Blackstar didn't last long only 1 season. My kids loved it. If you're into He-man, Thundarr, etc..you will love John Blackstar....

My memory must be slipping...When I was a kid, I loved this show. Now I look at it and realize that I would have watched paint dry on Saturday mornings. On the other hand, the art, the character designs and the concept aren't that bad. I love Filmation animation (Flash Gordon, Fat Albert, Tarzan & Lone Ranger stand out in my mind). I know they use the same cells over and over. I know it does compare to the realism of Pixar, but in some instances, it's very close to rotoscope (-if it's not, which I don't know). On occasion, I like my animation to look like animation. Oddly enough, I love it. The best part is this: I bought it to show my 3 1/2 year old cartoons that I watched when I was a kid and he LOVES IT!! So for the price, it was a steal. Thumbs up!
