The Blacksmith's Craft by Charles McRaven (2005, Paperback)

Very easy to read, understand and follow with many helpful hints and pertinent information. Very good beginners book.

5 stars ***** I've not had time to read much of this book yet, But it only takes a little reading (& looking @ the photos) to see that this is an excellent "How to" book on the subject of blacksmithing. It really seems to cover everything anyone (but the most advanced) smithy would want to know! Great book!

I already had read this book recently (checked it out of my local library), and liked it so well I decided to purchase my own copy. The book is quite informative, and well-illustrated. Mr. McRaven takes the reader through the basics in a relaxed, well thought-out manner. He makes it seem easy, and instills confidence in even the rankest newbie. In fact, his instructions on how to construct your own coal forge from a brake drum are so easy they have inspired me to try it for myself! I highly recommend this book as an introductory volume for anyone who is curious about getting started in the craft of blacksmithing. The only thing I didn't like about the book is that when I finished reading it, I was disappointed that there wasn't more!

Acquired an interest in blacksmitthing. Book acquired moderiate information on the subject. Not a lot of specific interest. Not much detail on the basics funtimantal function, but much better than some of the other books that I ordered.
I will keep the book for future reference and would buy it again at the price I paid.
