Album Notes Personnel: Alfonzo Hunter (vocals, saxophone); Dave Hollister (vocals); Erick Sermon (rap vocals); Mike Lorello, Michael Peeples (keyboards). Producers include: Erick Sermon, Alfonzo Hunter, Dave Hollister. Engineers include: Troy Hightower. Alfonzo Hunter is the first R&B vocalist down with the Def Squad, a crew of hip-hop artists that includes Erick Sermon and Redman. On Hunter's debut, producer Sermon crosses the boundary into smooth R&B, establishing himself as a skilled commander in yet another genre. The groove of the first single, "Just The Way (Playas Play)," is untouchably funky. No mere producer's pet, Hunter is a first-rate singer and songwriter. His sincerity and honesty in the latter department is evident in "Daddy's Little Baby," a song for his daughter. You can add his name the fine roster of R&B and soul singers at EMI Records that also includes D'Angelo.
Editorial Reviews 3 Stars (out of 5) - ...far subtler than most modern R&B. Hunter has a quietly emotive voice that's as clear as spring water....Short on samples and strong on new songs, Hunter is intimate...and sensuous... Q (02/01/1997)
...Hunter careens into the abyss of contemporary R&B....he's got more than a few tracks with phat beats....Love songs are definitely Hunter's forte... The Source (11/01/1996)
...though you can see the R. Kelly influence wrapped in the chocolate kisses that are Hunter's songs, you can also feel a slick, black-ice vibe... Vibe (11/01/1996)
