Great phone, yet far from being a leader
Review created: 10/15/09
38 of 40 people found this review helpful.

The original BlackBerry Curve was a huge success, and RIM decided to play the Curve game again and build in GPS
with the Curve 8310. Does it offer enough "bang" to upgrade? Find out after the jump.

The Curve 8310 still has the same 2.4 inch screen, the same killer keyboard, the same 2 megapixel camera, and the same thin and light form factor we've come to love. The major difference is that the 8310 has GPS functionality built-in provided by TeleNav and the Curve now comes in two colors, titanium and red. The $9.99 per month service allows you to get full GPS coverage with a standalone GPS, but brings it into the smartphone realm so you don't have to lug around two devices.

The 8310 still is a great phone, the call quality is excellent and the speakerphone is very loud. It's 2 megapixel camera is still the not the best, producing somewhat soft images both indoors and out. The media player is pretty basic, but it probably isn't the main use of such a business-oriented phone. We're still kind of wondering why the MicroSD card slot is still behind the battery though, but we're happy they stuck with the 3.5 mm headset jack (why get rid of it?).

Web surfing isn't the best experience, and doesn't offer the same formatting you would receive on say, an iPhone or your notebook computer.

Using the TeleNav GPS Navigator in the Sacramento area and it worked great. Some nice features were the ability to use the GPS in pedestrian mode, since it's much more portable than a regular GPS mode. We also liked that it asked for what route style we wanted: fastest, traffic optimized, shortest, prefer streets, prefer highway, or pedestrian.

One feature we would have liked on the 8310 is 3G support for high-speed data connectivity, are we still living in an EDGE world? Overall, the BlackBerry Curve line of devices still impresses us, from the unprecedented email capabilities, to the sleek design. If you don't need GPS however, stick with your current Curve 8300 until a larger upgrade becomes available. The BlackBerry Curve 8310 is available today from AT&T for $149 with a 2-year contract.

Pros
* Sleek and light design.
* Built-in GPS capability.
* Loud speakerphone, decent call quality.

Cons
* Still no 3G support.
* MicroSD slot still behind the battery.

  Great mid-range Smartphone

Love the keypad on the 8310, has a great tactile feel when using it. The roller ball on the 8310 is smooth and precise making navigating the phone's menus and web browser a breeze. The camera takes decent photos which you can quickly send via MMS, email, or facebook (if you have the app installed). The phone also has the ability to capture video (after OS update) but it requires a memory storage card to be installed to save recordings.

I use the 8310 mostly to check multiple email accounts while on the go as well as SMS texting. The Blackberry Messenger is a great feature built into all BB phones which allows you to message other BB users without using up your texting allotment. Since my wife has a BB I prefer using BB messenger so I don't waste text messages (that's her job ;) )

Solid phone for a great price
Review created: 01/30/10

This is a very good quality smart phone which is available for a great price on ebay. The phone is good for someone who needs excellent quality core phone features (voice quality, speakerphone quality, address book, phone settings ). As with any Blackberry it is great for e-mail, the keyboard is significantly faster for typing than a touch screen. Although the phone is good for lite web use (Google Maps, basic browsing) I would suggest a touch screen phone (e.g iPhone) for someone who is going to make heavy use of web apps and multimedia.

Other pros, great battery life and compact size.
Other cons, not much... the CPU isn't the fastest so you should probably buy a $10 sd card for storing multimedia files to keep system memory.

  BB Curve 8310 Review
Review created: 08/23/09

Bottom line:

The Good: The Blackberry Curve 8310 has a scratch-resistant finish, doubled up with a great bright screen, makes this phone just as attractive to a 12 year old as to a 80 year old, and everywhere in between. The phone features a great camera, video recorder, and makes a great note taker.

The Bad: This Curve model currently doesn't support WiFi, which is pretty strange, since most phones do. The battery life isn't too great if you text most of the day through, or listen to music. Most of the features that are more popular can't be accessed without a media card, especially the video recorder.

--

When I got this phone, I loved it. It was very addicting, actually-- I bought everything I needed for it within the first week and a half.. The essentials, like a media card and a silicone case.. I didn't buy a screen protector, as the phone screen is mostly prone to staying strong through wear and tear. The screen does get dust under the screen, but its very minimal, and unless you work somewhere where your phone is under constant attacks, this phone is great-- for anything.. Call quality is great, interface is good.

excelente producto buen recomendamos!

  Blackberry 8310 unlocked T-mobile

I love this model. It is similar to the 8800, but is slightly smaller and includes GPS and a 3mb camera. This device does everything you could possibly want a phone to do including surf the web, listen to music, and store photographs.
I guess there are more modern blackberrys available but I doubt the fundamental functions have changed. As a matter of fact I know they haven't! Touchscreens are OK, but nothing beats tactile buttons for text messaging and this phone has that plus much more covered. battery life is great with about one week between charging, but I do turn my phone off at night. All in all, a good phone with excellent reception at a great price if you search carefully for a gently used one. Of course, it is also worth mentioning the fact that an unlocked phone can be used by more than one provider and can be easily traded up for another phone when the time comes.

This is a good phone. Does basic cell phone items.
Plus it does have email, internet and text messaging utilities.
The design is not an Iphone but it does the job.
It is a good quality product with possibility to upgrade with a memory card. You can store images, Mp3 music, etc.
I do like my blackberry curve.

  Outstanding phone! The Blackberry 8310!
Review created: 06/10/10

the Blackberry Curve 8310 is the best phone that I have ever owned! Outstanding clarity at BOTH ends of the conversation, and in conference calls, the best phone! The Blackberry 8310 is also very durable! I've had mine for two years, and the 'ball' part is just fine. Of course, I treat my phone with respect and a great deal of care.

Carrying a car charger, and having two home chargers in different rooms helps me constantly keep on top of the two-three hour battery. I also picked up a spare Blackberry OEM part battery over the 'New for under $4.00 plus shipping off eBay.

All in all, this is the phone for someone who wants it all at a fair price and slightly reduced technology from the super modern phones of today.

BlackBerry Curve, An Average Smart Phone.
Review created: 02/03/10
3 of 5 people found this review helpful.

I was very excited when deciding to purchase a BlackBerry phone. When visiting the AT&T store, I found myself picking this model of a BlackBerry phone. There has been positives/negatives to this phone, here the are:

Positives: The phone has a good design and I really picked it for the keyboard on it. I did want to double click my buttons to get the letter I wanted as I did no previous phones. However, sometimes it does take me a bit to find a specific symbol. It is much easier to type on but I have to constantly watch the autocorrect because it will change things I don't want changed. The phone has a lot of tools such as a camera, notepad, password keeper, datebook, etc. I do use the tools quite often and rely on them. The screen is colored which is easier to see.

Negatives: To start, the speaker is aweful. When watching videos on youtube you have to hold it up to your ears. That would probably be why it comes with headphones :)! There are too many icons. You almost have to resort them the way you want them. I find myself shutting down the phone entirely too much. I left the store and did not check the internet. The minute I got home, I could not access the internet. They told me to completely shut down the phone, taking the battery out for approximately 10 minutes. I did so and it worked after that. The applications are getting better but they are no way near what the iphone puts out in applications! I many use this phone for using eBay and I found myself using the eBay mobile application more than any eBay apps. The regular eBay apps just get hung up to easy. I would probably like the phone more if it had touchscreen. Sometimes the little mouse gets locked up.

Overall, I have tested the apple iphone and prefer it over the BlackBerry! If it didn't cost as much, I would have gotten the iphone. I will definetely looking at other options as soon as my contract is up!

Overall average rating, nothing to brag about!

Blackberry has some amazing phones. The curve will give you just about everything that you need at a very reasonable price. I email daily, work online, txt, and talk on the phone all day with the Curve. It is fast, reliable, and durable. You can get a very nice one for about $100 or $110 here on ebay, I wouldn't pay more. Make sure to get the USB cable with it as well.

Great used computerized telephone for the money!
Review created: 07/29/10

Great phone for the money. Why? Because it has a computer inside of it! Well kinda... LOL! These phones offer functionality, and creativity with the different apps available to its users. Although the buttons are so much smaller, it is rather easy to hit each one with mashing several at a time. As I thought would be the case. But it is not, I stand corrected. I rate this phone as "GOOD" overall. Mainly because You have to repeatedly pop the battery on a daily basis (Unless You install the "Quick Pull" app, this app mimics a battery pull and resets the phone in the same manner freeing up memory to allow your phone to run faster after it Reboots). And because of the ongoing Trackball problems that exist. Even with this in mind, I will keep my 8310. I love it, and I cannot live without it now! FOUR STARS!!!!

Blackberry Curve 8310 - Great Phone
Review created: 06/05/10
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Although this phone has edge technology instead of actual 3G for multi-tasking like the ATT commercials 99% of us will not need the ability to make a call and look at the Internet at the same time. The standard applications you expect from a Blackberry are all here, the calender, the phone book, the memo pad, and of course the email capabilities to manage your contacts away from the office or home. All functions work quickly and the media capabilities are above minimum standards for today. Replacement parts like track balls and cases are readily available, as a matter of fact I have already ordered and replaced my screen lens for the hilarious price of $1.49 from China. I don't see how you can go wrong with this phone.

I recently lost my iphone to water damage and couldn't afford to replace it. I saw this phone on ebay and thought I would try it out as it has the same data plan as the iphone. I am impressed. It takes some getting used to but overall the email/messaging is actually superior than the iphone. Typing is very easy with the large spaces in between keys. Scrolling on web pages can be tedious but luckily there are keyboard shortcuts to jump around the page as needed. I gave it a good instead of excellent because it is lacking in the media/apps department (but pretty much every phone is compared with the iphone/ipod touch), also it doesn't have wifi. However despite these flaws I have enjoyed using this phone and it is worth checking out.

Blackberry Curve 8310 keeps my life in order.
Review created: 05/02/10

This phone is the hub of my life. I keep it synced, with my office express, so my calendar is always up-to-date. It notifies me of my up coming apps and my contacts are all in order. I enter everything into my computer and then sync my phone with it. I love this Blackberry. The camera and video are just great. I use it even to take pictures of my yard birds and flowers to email to friends and family. I also love all the backup and support that Blackberry gives you. I am not into the touch phones like the iphone ect. But I do love this phone I would recommend it to anyone. Like all things their is a learning curve but once you get to know this little phone it becomes your best friend.

I bought the Blackberry 8310 three weeks ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has all the features a Curve is suppose to have. A sleek look, camera, display and speakerphone. The Blackberry 8310 size is perfect for carrying in a pocket. My only complaint is that the phone sometimes takes forever to load up but I understood that is most blackberry problems. Overall, I'd recommend this phone to anyone that is in need of a PDA phone and is just starting out on that feature.

  Fantastic Blackberry Curve 8310
3 of 4 people found this review helpful.

The blackberry curve 8310 is a little difficult to learn how to use at first but the book covers almost areas of operations of the phone.
The body of the blackberry curve is great for a man as it is larger than a flip phone. It is not so great for a woman who wears "boyfriend style" jeans as the pockets of the jeans are not very deep and the blackberry easily falls out of the top of the front pockets. A plus is that if you lay down the phone anywhere, as large as it is, the phone is easier to find than a flip phone.
The blackberry curve 8310 has a nice large screen which is perfect for reading emails on the internet. There are quite a few features on the blackberry that you cannot use unless you purchase the multimedia plan through your carrier. Through AT&T the Blackberry plan cost $10 a month more than the cost of the plan for my Pantech Breeze flip phone. I ended up giving the Blackberry Curve 8310 to my husband to use with the internet. I opted for my simple Pantech Breeze which is a fantastic phone with large numbers that are easier for me to see than the numbers on the Blackberry Curve 8310. Would I buy it again for myself to use, "No" but I would buy my husband another one due to the size of the phone which is perfect for men's big hands and the fact that the screen is wider to read emails.

The blackberry curve 8310, is a very easy to use phone. I am an iPhone user, however when mine broke and I wasn't wanting to spend another $400 to replace it the Blackberry curve was the clear choice. The phone has great call clarity and the texting is very easy with the keyboard. I do however dislike the text message set up, I wish it was more like the iPhone which is identical to an IM system, it allows you to have multiple conversations and seeing the previous texts without having to search for them. The phone does have the BBM which is unavailable on the iPhone. I wouldn't personally pay for an internet package on the blackberry having come from the iPhone it is not as easy to use.

I bought the blackberry 8310 and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 10 hours. My only complaint is that the menu system on the phone makes you click four times before you can find someone in the address book, set an alarm, or perform a additional functions. Other phones I've owned have simpler menus and get you to important features easily. Overall, I'd recommend the phone if you're on a budget.

The Blackberry curve 8300 to 8330 series phones are now afordable since they are a little older and the newer versions are out, and they are still one of the best phones out there. This phone has all the great features that make the smart phones so popular today, and because they have been around for a while they don't cost near as much as the other PDA phones. They also have lots of great apps that you can get, to make owning one even more satisfying.

I like the curves because they're reliable, during the past few years I've had a few (not because of damage but just for change of phones). They keep the simple and traditional blackberry styling over anything else, and the software isnt that bad on it for now.

Unfortunately, in the coming years, this will just be a phone with good battery life, a qwerty keyboard, and baby software. Good for some people, but more people will want to do more with their phones. Sure, BB has apps, but they're not iPhone or Android apps. They simply can't compete on this device, other blackberrys have better software.

Great phone if you like the actual phone, BB has always made pretty quality stuff (except the storm 1) so go for it!

This phone is a very nice phone but it is not what it has been made out to be. It sounds nice but my Palm Treo blows it out of the water. If I had to choose again I would not buy it. It's not a bad phone by no means but it is limited on certain features, such as texting to people on your contact list; it's not very easy to do this with this phone. The period button requires you to press the alt key to get it where as other phones do not do this. It's durable, has internet access, holds a lot of memory, and takes awsome pictures. I would suggest this phone to someone that has never had a key pad on their phone or someone that just does text that often.

Initially I had a problem getting the phone to charge. After about 7 hours on the charger I tried to activate the phone. I was able to call out. This was a new style phone for me, so I had a lot to learn. I did not use it for more than a few hours, the phone died and I could not get it back on. Got the at&t store to look at it and they tried a new battery, but the phone did not turn on. The phone displayed a weak battery icon with a diagonal line. I could not activate this used product and feel extremely disappointed. Is the BlackBerry Curve 8310 known for the battery issues or did I just get a lemon?
