How did I get along without it

Having all your email accounts come to one central location is a huge convenience. It will save you a lot of time reading and replying to emails at home but you won't lose the ability to check mail at home because emails go to both locations. It's also great having the power of the internet at your finger tips. I can get directions, use information for free and check my sports scores from anywhere. They also have great resell value so if you decide to upgrade or go back to your old phone its easy and inexpensive. Others feedback says the address book is hard to use but it couldn't be easier. You can store multiple numbers under one name and when you click on their name it gives you a choice of calling home, work, mobile, email, text etc. With T-Mobile internet I get unlimited internet usage and emails for $20. Emailing has replaced texting and has saved me a lot of money for that cost.

I purchased this phone for a friend of mine because he wanted a phone to be able to access email and write messages easier. I have to say he loves it. It works great with blue tooth, allows him to read and write email. Have had no problems with it. Before purchasing this product we looked at different models and others similar to it out there and found that they were all about the same just a different model number. Although this is a little older of a model it diffenately works just as good as the newer ones.

Does the Job, and does it well
Review created: 04/07/07(updated 04/07/07)

8 of 9 people found this review helpful.

I was issued this PDA for my job and have been using this handy little device for about 2 months. Of course, this device serves as a mobile phone, but what has been most useful to me is the ability to send & check e-mails and access my calendar on the go. One of the best features is that it links (and syncs) back to your PC's e-mail, calendar and address book. For example, when you receive an e-mail on your PC, it also appears on your Blackberry. Conversely, when you send or delete a message on your Blackberry it reflects that same information on your PC.

This has completely changed how productive I can be and has made my life much easier. Prior to having this, I had no way of checking e-mails or confirming my schedule unless I was sitting at a PC. This was, obviously, a problem if I was out of the office for an extended time during the day. Simply put, with this PDA you always have all the information you need (as if you were sitting in your office at your PC) and it's in real time so there's no laspe.

Typing is not as difficult as you may think. You get used to it rather quickly. Most people use their thumbs - almost like a child playing a Gameboy - but it's the fastest and easiest way.

The Blackberry also includes a web browser - which I don't really use that often. Many websites now have a PDA version that is a somewhat scaled-down version of their site that makes connection and loading faster.

You use a flywheel (spinning control) on the side for most navigation and access. The Blackberry is cleverly designed and very intuitive. For example, when you use the wheel to look at e-mails, a option menu appears, and the "open" feature is already pre-selected. You will notice you can also easily navigate down to "Delete" or "Reply" ...but, since more than likely your first action (as the receiver) would be to "open" it makes that your first option. This sounds like a small thing, but it makes it so easy to just hit a button a couple of butten and go from having a blackberry in your pocket to reading an important message... all with no typing.

What I don't care for (and these are all minor things):

The "off" button is the last icon displayed and there's no short-cut so you have to scroll through all the other items to get to it.

When you return from "Lock Mode" you have to be careful not to inadvertently select "Call for Help" - I haven't done this yet, but I've come close many times.

..and those are my only two complaints! If you travel, get a lot of e-mails, make a lot of calls, and go to a lot of meetings...this device is for you.

  Blackberry 7290 "Full-Function Older Generation"
Review created: 09/02/07

I purchased the 7290 for two reasons: funcitonality and price. Knowing that this was an older generation PDA phone was not a concern as long as the unit had the functions that I needed; bluetooth, email, SMS etc. It does have those functions and it performs well. The discomfort of using the unit is the lack of human logic to the controls. Unlike later models whose operational functions have been designed much more logically, the 7290 requires you to learn (memorize) the functions, and there are many, and then the handling of the unit is easy. But expect ot become a lttle frustrated while you are getting acquainted. The screen is rather anoying at times. It has three brightness levels and doesn't remain at the brightest level for long. This is a way to conserve power. The color is not great but beats black and white. Later models are greatly improved if you want to display photos. The keys are large for this size of unit and are easy to operate. The sound quality is good once you know how to position it on your ear; I recommend using a bluetooth headset. Get a case for it! Putting it in your pocket always inadvertantly pushes buttons. You may get surprised when someone mistakenly dialed hears ALL your conversation! In conclusion, price was right, quality is there, and functionality is a learning ezperience.

Like to the product. It was new and works well. I'm happy to have it. I bought it for work. The transaction was easy of course, but I was a little concern about buying a phone online. The phone is new and it serves my need for a calander, text, phone.

  Review Of Blackberry 7290
Review created: 04/18/08

If you are a buissness savvy person then this phone is for you. Lets start with the design. The qwerty keyboard is great and perfect for a first time user of the keyboard on a cell phone. It looks like a stretched version of the qwerty keyboard on the blackjack. The screen is a resonable size. Perfect for long text messages. On the right side of the 7290(where the scrool wheel is), it contains the scrool wheel and the exit button. The other side contains the headphone jack and usb cable. The top contains the antenne(enbedded) and phone push to talk. It has a nice hold and is very easy to get used to. Only i do have a problem with the slickness. No matter how old the phone is, it is always slippery and slick and it has fallen out of my hand a few times, but i think the tough design makes up for that. Now with the features. It contains
-Enterprise Activation
-Messaging
-Phone
-Address Book
-Calender
-Tasks
-MemoPad
-Alarm
-Games
-Calculator
-Photos
-Keyboard lock
Enterprise activation really allows you to share info with the office using the login you use for coperate emails. Messages contain email and text and i find it a ease to type long messages with the keyboard and messaging and also suretype really comes in handy. Phone has all the calling features and the phone doesnt have speakerphone!!! Address book is where you access contacts where you can call and SMS them. Calender has all calender features. Tasks are really a date book and memopad works as a notepad/diary. Alarm has all the alarm features. Profiles allow you to set your phone at Loud,Vibrate,Quiet,Normal,Phone only, and off. Also a area where you can have a exception for important calls. Games which include just BrickBreaker which is very addictive i have to say. But you can also buy more games on the Blackberry website. Calculator has all those features.Pictures hod your pictures but you can have picture messages!!! And keyboard lock which comes in handy for me when i put my phone in my pocket of a day at the mall or on a walk etc. I would give this phone a 3/5 because of the slipping and the no picture messageing or camera. Also if you use prepaid it wouldnt allow the internet feature and would exclude it out the menue so no way of trying.

A cheap way to find out if BlackBerry is for you
Review created: 12/03/08

Although quite dated in terms of design, i couldnt be happier with my 7290. The keyboard cannot be matched for ease of use, accuracy, and tactile quality. the scroll wheel took a day to get used to; i have hung up on people by pressing the wheel it, and inadvertently spinning it. i purchased a rubber skin for it because the plastic body slides around on surfaces. If you want to purchase an inexpensive phone because yours is broke, pick the 7290.

  Functional
Review created: 02/28/08
by:
3 of 3 people found this review helpful.

The 7290 is functional. It has the capabilities I need, though some fall short, but lacks several that I want.
Pros:
Setup was easy: transferring contacts from the SIM card was easy.
Big screen makes it easy to read.
Buttons nicely spaced, typing is easy
Bluetooth setup easy, signal clear

Cons:
Network connectivity is slow. Very slow. It takes me over 10 minutes to login to my online banking's mobile site. Not cool.
It is entirely too easy to accidentally cut off an incoming call or hang up on someone with the scroll wheel and cancel button in the side, right under the user's fingers.
The menu navigation is clumsy - you can only scroll back and forth through the icons in sequence. If you have a lot of applications, this can take a while.
NO good ringtones. Only supports MIDI single-voice. Will attempt to play MIDIs with more than 1 voice, but plays each voice in turn.. Weird...

Other than that, it does do its job, but I will probably upgrade before too long.

A decently reliable phone (have been using it for about 2 1/2 months) and love that all needed features are included on the phone so do not have to carry multiple devices.

Do not like that there is no speaker phone and to have this feature must purchase expensive blue tooth. Also the battery can run down and power will be on but unable to make or recieve calls.

If you're not an "e-mail by phone freak", don't buy it.

This phone is for business people who need to receive and send e-mails over the phone (what a terrible life!). The blackberry is way too big, too weird looking and it's phonebook is a pain in the neck. Besides, if you're looking for some cool fetures that come standartd in another regular cellphones, forget it! If you wanna send e-mails using your Blackberry, be preapared to pay extra 60 or 70 bucks for the service.

Just take 2 minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It literally takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I promise you, this is 100% real. Here is what you do. Click on the link below, register, pick an account type (referral is the easiest) and complete just 1 offer (Very important that you complete the 1 offer otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). The best offer to do is STAMPS.com. Its free, all you need to do is register and follow the instructions. And you’re on your way to your free prize for just completing this offer!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use them to get a free PS3, flat screen TV, iPHONE, ipod or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 4 week free trial and it is free! I don’t have to do anything with it). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you. After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 5-14 people or friends (depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link (just post the same thing as I have on eBay or any other message board, and you'll get your referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your selected item for free. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all the referrals. All you have to do is post it on EBAY! They use us as advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you want. You must use your own authentic link though. Bought the phone about a month ago to replace a T-Mobile 7730, that did not have phone reception almost no where. The 7290 work in most places I never had phone reception and the Bluetooth feature that goes with it.

Except for one set back it can not connect to my laptop Bluetooth as it does not support this feature.

Not a bad phone overall.

  review on the blackberry 7290
Review created: 03/22/07

2 of 8 people found this review helpful.

I would have loved to have the blackberry 7290 but i have never received it. I have contacted the seller and said it would take a week but I have paid for something I haven't gotten yet and its been way more than a week. I told the man I would like my money back he didn't respond. I think this man should not take my money and I get nothing I would love to have my phone that I have paid for or either all of my money back...... I have talked to cingular and I have had to buy another phone through them. The man told me he was going to send me my phone when cingular accepted me to get a new phone or something like that, well they said they knew nothing about anything like that and have never heard of that. I think it is a scam this man is running. I don't think that e-bay should support him and should not let him sell anything else. I am tired of fighting for something I have payed for in full and never received. This is ridiculous that some one can get away with something like that. It is very illegal anyways. Thank you so much. I hope I never run into this problem on e-bay again. If you would like to contact me my phone # is 870-265-6886, my address is 2442 old hwy south Eudora, Ar 71640... sincerely,
Valliery Brooks
